OPED-Digital Health Solutions (O-DHS) is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django) to lead the backend for an AI-supported gait analysis native app. You will shape architecture, standards, and secure, scalable backend systems while collaborating with Product, Quality, Regulatory, and Development teams.

The role emphasizes medical software expertise, MDR/GDPR knowledge, and mentoring of engineers. We offer flexible hours and 100% remote options within a supportive interdisciplinary

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, including senior/leadership in medical software or digital health.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python/Django, PostgreSQL, REST APIs and modern auth concepts; frontend React a plus.
• Deep understanding of robust architectures, scalable systems, secure coding, CI/CD, testing, version control and code reviews.
• Knowledge of MDR, GDPR, data protection, cybersecurity; DiGA processes and external system integrations a plus.
• Independent working style with technical ownership and mentorship abilities.
• Excellent English communication; German skills are an advantage.

Responsibilities

Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django) – AI & Gait Analysis

Your Task

• Take technical leadership of the backend for our native app for AI-supported gait analysis, shape its technological direction, and play a key role in architectural decisions while building secure, scalable, and maintainable backend systems using Python and Django.
• Establish and continuously improve technical standards, best practices, and sustainable development processes across the backend.
• Design and integrate DiGA-specific interfaces, external healthcare systems, third-party services, and APIs, and translate complex requirements into implementation-ready development tickets.
• Strengthen technical quality across the team through code reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing, while driving the continuous improvement of automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and release processes.
• Translate regulatory, data protection, and cybersecurity requirements into robust technical solutions and shape technical decisions in close collaboration with Product Management, Quality Management, Regulatory Affairs, and Development.
• Create technical and regulatory documentation and support audits, security assessments, penetration tests, and approval processes.

Your Qualifications

• At least 6 years of professional software development experience, including experience in a senior or technical leadership role, with proven experience in medical software, digital health applications, or software as a medical device.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Python and Django, as well as solid experience with PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and modern authentication and authorization concepts; experience with React or comparable modern frontend technologies is a plus.
• Deep understanding of robust software architectures, scalable systems, secure coding, and sustainable technical solutions, combined with experience in CI/CD, automated testing, version control, and code reviews.
• Knowledge of MDR, GDPR, BSI, data protection, and cybersecurity, ideally complemented by experience with DiGA-specific processes and integrations with external healthcare systems.
• Independent working style and strong technical ownership, with the ability to support, mentor, and develop other engineers.
• Excellent English communication skills, with German skills being an advantage.
