Job summary

Digital Waffle is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in Berlin with strong Python and cloud experience. You will own backend services, contribute to architecture, and collaborate across product, QA, and AI teams in an agile setting.

Hybrid work arrangement and modern tech stack including AWS, PostgreSQL, and serverless tooling are offered. The role emphasizes performance, scalability, and robust testing practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong commercial experience with Python.
• Experience with TypeScript and/or JavaScript.
• Hands-on API and backend service development.
• Experience with frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask or similar.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB would be beneficial.
• Good understanding of AWS and cloud-based architecture, particularly serverless technologies.
• Experience with automated testing and modern software development practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions.
• A good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, scalability and performance is a must.
• Experience working within an agile engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing scalable backend services using Python and AWS.
• Building efficient serverless applications and APIs.
• Working with technologies such as AWS Lambda, S3 and other AWS services.
• Developing and maintaining APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask.
• Designing and optimising data solutions using PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and caching technologies.
• Improving application performance, reliability and scalability.
• Establishing and improving automated testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Contributing to CI/CD processes and engineering standards.
• Working with modern dependency and package management approaches.
• Helping maintain clean, well-documented and maintainable codebases.
• Contributing to the architecture and integration of backend services with other parts of the wider technology ecosystem.
• Working closely with frontend engineers, QA, product, UX/UI and AI specialists.
• Taking an active role in an agile development environment and contributing ideas that improve how the team works.

They're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Python experience to join a collaborative product team and take ownership of important backend services and cloud infrastructure.This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building robust systems, improving performance and working closely with engineers across the wider product organisation.

The Role

What We're Looking For
