Job description:

DESY

The DESY group "Information Technology" (IT) is participating in a variety of high profile national and European projects, evaluating new and innovative IT technologies. One of these Projects is the "Horizon Europe" OSCARS project, where 15 prominent European scientific partners are collaborating to promote FAIR Data and Open Science across disciplines in Europe. The main objective is to exploit synergies on Open Science practices and tools between the most prominent scientific clusters in Europe, like Astronomy, Environment and Life science. Another project is "EOSC Beyond" with over 30 esteemed scientific institutions in Europe, who aim to enhance the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) by offering advanced scientific services accessible to researchers across Europe. The goal is to expand the EOSC network by integrating specialized scientific software with a flexible execution framework which will enable the use of this software in a versatile and modular manner. The ideal candidate will contribute to both OSCARS and EOSC Beyond, helping to support open science in Europe through the evolving EOSC framework.

About your role:
  • You will participate in elaborating an action plan for the composability of high level scientific data and computer services
  • You will enhance the reuse of data in the Photon and Neutron scientific area and beyond
  • You will contribute to the overall architecture and the design of thematic European Cloud Nodes
  • You will participate in regular project meetings and co-organise conferences and workshops, both online and in person
  • You will contribute to regular reports towards the project management and the EC
About you:
  • You have completed a master's degree in computer science, physics or related subject, or comparable knowledge
  • You have good knowledge in research data management and you are enthusiastic about Open Science
  • You have good knowledge of a modern programming language, such as python or typescript
  • Familiarity with modern cloud and deployment technologies, such as Kubernetes and ArgoCD, is beneficial
  • Previous experience in large-scale projects involving geographically dispersed teams will be an asset
  • Knowledge of web technologies will be advantageous
  • Previous experience with large scale photon and neutron facilities is helpful
  • You have good spoken and written command of the English language
