WELDING ENGINEER / PIPING SUPERVISOR
Freelance or employe LNG Project – Hamburg, Germany – 2 Years
PCT Engineering Resources GmbH is looking for an experienced Welding Engineer / Piping Supervisor for a major LNG construction project in the Hamburg area, Germany.
This position will complement the project’s NDT Level 3 function, combining welding engineering support with site supervision of piping fabrication, installation and testing.
The preferred contractual arrangement is freelance, with an expected project duration of approximately two years.
Main responsibilities:
- Supervise piping fabrication, erection and welding activities on site.
- Ensure compliance with approved drawings, isometrics, specifications, codes and Inspection and Test Plans.
- Review welding documentation, including WPS, PQR/WPQR and welder qualifications.
- Verify welding consumables, materials, traceability, fit-up, preheating, interpass temperatures and PWHT requirements.
- Coordinate weld inspection and NDT activities with the NDT Level 3, QA/QC team and inspection contractors.
- Monitor welding production, repair rates, weld rejection trends and corrective actions.
- Review weld maps, welding logs, NDT reports and mechanical completion records.
- Supervise piping installation, supports, alignment, flange management and bolted connections.
- Verify system cleanliness, reinstatement and readiness for pressure testing.
- Support hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, flushing, blowing and system handover.
- Identify construction deviations, non-conformities and technical problems.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineering, construction, QA/QC, client and third-party inspectors.
- Participate in site meetings, inspections, audits, walkdowns and punch-list activities.
- Prepare progress and technical reports.
Mandatory requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
- Extensive experience in industrial piping construction and welding supervision.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, materials and welding quality requirements.
- Experience reviewing WPS, PQR/WPQR and welder qualifications.
- Experience with piping systems, pressure equipment and mechanical completion.
- Good knowledge of applicable EN, ISO and ASME codes.
- Professional working English.
- Availability to work predominantly on site in the Hamburg area.
Preferred qualifications:
- International Welding Engineer – IWE – or equivalent qualification.
- CSWIP 3.1/3.2, AWS CWI, IWI-C or equivalent welding inspection certification.
- Experience in LNG, Oil & Gas, petrochemical or energy projects.
- Experience with stainless steel, carbon steel and cryogenic piping.
- Knowledge of EN ISO 15614, EN ISO 9606, EN ISO 3834, EN 13480, ASME B31.3 and ASME Section IX.
- Experience with PED requirements.
- Knowledge of PWHT, hardness testing and weld repair management.
- NDT Level 2 or Level 3 certification would be an advantage.
- Previous experience working on European construction projects.
- German language skills.
- EU work authorisation.
