• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 7–15 years of experience in semiconductor product development with exposure to functional safety.
• Strong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures and their application in automotive or industrial safety domains.
• Strong understanding of IP and SoC level Safety mechanisms.
• Understanding safety standards (ISO 26262 or IEC 61508) and associated development lifecycles and work products.
• Experience with safety analysis techniques such as FTA, DFA, and FMEDA and the related tools (e.g., Medini).
• Hands-on experience in at least two safety compliant product development developing Functional Safety Concept and Technical Safety Concept.
• Experience in safety audits, assessments, and certification activities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and global teams.

• Contribute to the capture and management of requirements using appropriate requirements management tools.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure consistent and effective implementation of safety concepts.
• Review and develop IP, SoC and Software related Safety work products compliant to ISO26262 or IEC61508.
• Perform safety analyses at IP and product levels, including FTA, DFA, and FMEDA.
• Support the definition and review of safety verification and validation strategies.
• Perform IP, SoC, Software and System level safety management tasks compliant to ISO26262 or IEC61508.
• Report on compliance status, gaps and mitigation actions.
• Prepare the product for formal assessment and ultimately final certification.
• Contribute to Confirmation Measures and conduct internal reviews.
• Support customers in the integration and application of NXP safety products, including tailored solutions where required.

Job Summary

This Safety Engineer position is part of the Functional Safety Competence Center and contributes to the development of safety-compliant semiconductor products. Key responsibilities are defining, analyzing, and validating safety concepts and architectures, including developing safety requirements and performing Safety Analyses. The Safety Engineer collaborates with implementation teams, systems, hardware, and software teams to deliver robust, certifiable solutions and to ensuring a Functional Safety compliant development process. Candidates with strong experience in Microcontroller and Microprocessor architecture and Safety product development are preferred. Exceptions may be made for candidates having no prior safety experience but have strong background in chip design architecture and are motivated to learn Functional Safety.

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.

7–15 years of experience in semiconductor product development with exposure to functional safety.

Strong understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architectures and their application in automotive or industrial safety domains.

Strong understanding of IP and SoC level Safety mechanisms.

Understanding safety standards (ISO 26262 or IEC 61508) and associated development lifecycles and work products.

Experience with safety analysis techniques such as FTA, DFA, and FMEDA and the related tools (e.g., Medini).

Hands‑on experience in at least two safety compliant product development developing Functional Safety Concept and Technical Safety Concept.

Experience in safety audits, assessments, and certification activities.

Ability to collaborate effectively in cross‑functional and global teams.

Preferred

Experience in functional safety design and development within Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive suppliers.

Broad exposure to semiconductor product development (e.g., IP design, verification, DFT, physical implementation, tools, and methodologies).

Familiarity with requirements management tools such as ELM7.

Familiarity with software development compliant to ISO26262: Part 6.

Familiarity with embedded system and software development.
