VIAVI Solutions is launching a two-year R&D rotation program in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, offering hands-on FPGA design work in cutting-edge digital signal processing and communications. You will collaborate across hardware, software, and system teams, contributing to designs, verifications, and documentation from concept to production.

Candidates should have a technical degree, HDL skills, and strong German/English communication.

• Proficiency in HDL languages (VHDL/Verilog) and hands-on FPGA development.
• German at least B2 and fluent English; strong problem-solving and communication.

• Design, develop, and document FPGA applications for digital signal processing, data processing, and specialized communication protocols.
• Create and execute comprehensive test benches to validate FPGA design performance, functionality, and timing requirements.
• Collaborate effectively with hardware, software, and system engineers as part of a multi-disciplinary design team.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and documentation processes to ensure quality deliverables.
• Optimize FPGA designs for performance, power consumption, and resource utilization.
• Debug and troubleshoot complex FPGA implementations using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
• Support product development lifecycle from concept through production, including design verification and validation activities.
• Leverage modern AI/LLM tools to accelerate design exploration, code generation, debugging, and documentation.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum B2 in German and fluency in English.
• Hands-on experience in FPGA design and development.
• Proficiency in HDL languages (VHDL and/or Verilog).
• Experience with FPGA development tools.
• Strong understanding of digital signal processing concepts and implementation.
• Knowledge of timing analysis, clock domain crossing, and FPGA architecture optimization.
• Experience with simulation and verification tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with high-speed serial interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, USB, etc.).
• Knowledge of embedded processors and system-on-chip (SoC) architectures.
• Familiarity with telecommunications and networking protocols.
• Experience with version control systems and collaborative development processes.
