As part of our institute, you will take on the technical leadership of an existing team of early-career researchers working on maritime civil security simulations. The role focuses on constructive simulations in which simulated agents operate simulated systems. Such simulations are used to:
This field brings together several specialist areas. We are developing a simulation-based environment using a game engine to model maritime security systems and operational scenarios. In addition, we are researching approaches in which the behaviour of individual agents in the simulation is based on machine-learning models trained using reinforcement learning.
You will have the opportunity to pursue your own research ideas in these subject areas whilst contributing to the further development and leadership of the existing team. The DLR plans and carries out its work within the framework of internally and externally funded projects.
