Zusammenfassung

Universität Hamburg sucht eine/n engagierte/n Wissenschaftler/in zur Verstärkung der Funktionalen Ökologie Gruppe. Zu den Aufgaben gehören Lehre und Forschung im Fachgebiet sowie die Weiterentwicklung des Forschungsprofils mit Fokus auf Kosten des Lebens und Energiebudgetierung kleiner Säugetiere.

Es wird erwartet, dass Sie Erfahrungen in Feldarbeiten besitzen, Publikationen vorweisen und sich aktiv an der Beschaffung externer Mittel beteiligen.

Qualifikationen

• Universitätsabschluss in einem relevanten Fach, plus Doktortitel.
• Ausgeprägte Kenntnisse in statistischen Verfahren und gute Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift.
• Hintergrund in funktionaler Ökologie, insbesondere Energiehaushalt, Thermoregulation und Ernährungsökologie.
• Bereitschaft zur eigenständigen Forschung und Akquise von Drittmitteln.

Aufgaben

• Lehre und Forschung in der jeweiligen Abteilung oder dem Institut.
• Aufbau eines eigenständigen Forschungsschwerpunktes und Akquise externer Fördermittel.
• Mitarbeit an Feldforschungen in Hamburg und Publikationsaktivitäten.
• Unterrichtung und Betreuung von Studierenden auf BSc- und MSc-Niveau.

Your responsibilities

Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate's own academic work.

The successful candidate is expected to strengthen and expand the research focus and methods of the Functional Ecology Group (Prof. Dr. Kathrin Dausmann). We are interested in the "Costs of Life" and focus on the ecological and physiological responses animal species employ to cope with changing and extreme conditions (seasonality, climate change, urbanization). The combination of ecological research and physiological methods is central in our approach, particularly in respect to energy budgeting, thermoregulation and nutrition ecology of small mammals. You should have a background and expertise in these fields and the relevant methods, and should be interested in advancing these, as well as experience in field work.

You will have the possibility to establish your own, independent research profile and attract external funding. Especially welcome are ideas for field projects in Hamburg. International scientific experience is very welcome, and you should enjoy teaching and supervising students. We offer a stimulating, interactive and friendly research environment, frequently enriched by international guests and students. Teaching hours are 4 p/w (during the semester) and mainly includes ecological and physiological courses on the BSc- and MSc-level.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.

We are looking for a highly motivated team player, with a background in functional ecology, especially in the fields of energy budgeting, thermoregulation and nutrition ecology, reflected in respective publications. Please provide a convincing research concept. We expect experience in experimental lab and field work of small mammals. Excellent knowledge in statistical procedures and a good proficiency of written and spoken English is a requirement.
