The Chair for Public Law, International Law and EU Law (Prof. Dr. Isabelle Ley) at the Law Faculty of Friedrich Schiller University of Jena seeks to fill two positions of a Research Assistant commencing as soon as possible. We offer a part‑time position (50%, 20 hours per week) for an initial period of three years.

The Chair focuses on the law of international institutions and courts, current developments in the international legal order, ius ad bellum/ius in bello, international legal theory, arms control, constitutional law of the European Union and EU external relations law, European democracy, German foreign relations and defense law, as well as constitutional theory. The position will focus on research and teaching in these areas. As the Chair has newly been filled and renamed, this is the chance to be part of this formative phase and contribute to a vibrant and motivated team with an international outlook. The position offers the opportunity to work on your own qualification project (e.g. doctorate, post‑doctorate).

Your responsibilities:
  • Independent teaching of courses (especially courses)
  • Correction and examination activities
  • Research and teaching within the thematic scope of the Chair (2 hours per week each semester)
  • Possible support for the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court (in cooperation with other team members)
  • Support for research projects conducted at the Chair
  • Work on your own academic qualification project, e.g. doctoral or post‑doctoral project
Your profile:
  • A law degree (First and/or Second State Examination or a Master’s degree in law, completed with above‑average results, from Germany or abroad)
  • Knowledge in and enthusiasm for public international law, EU Law, foreign relations law, and/or (comparative) constitutional law is an advantage
  • Very good command of English; knowledge of additional languages, including German, is not mandatory but an asset
  • Enthusiasm for academic work; ideas for events, topics for the Chair’s roundtables are very welcome
