QuantumDiamonds in Munich is seeking a Quantum Lab Engineering Intern to build a brand-new Quantum Diamond Microscope lab from the ground up and join hardware and R&D teams.

You will also keep the existing lab running, assisting in assembly, testing, and characterization of quantum sensing systems using lasers, optics, RF components, and diamond sensors. This full-time internship runs for 6 months starting as soon as possible.

Qualifikationen

• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Physics, Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
• Available full time for 6 months starting as soon as possible.
• Hands-on lab experience and familiarity with optics, lasers, or RF electronics is highly valued.
• Familiarity with common lab measurement instruments (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies) is preferred.
• Fluent in English.

Aufgaben

• Build a new QDM lab setup from scratch: layout planning, installing optical tables, lasers, microscopes, and RF electronics.
• Support setup, maintenance, alignment, and calibration of lab equipment across labs.
• Assist in assembling and testing opto-electronic and mechanical components used in sensor heads and systems.
• Prepare and execute measurement routines (e.g., fluorescence imaging, magnetic field scans) with physicists and engineers.
• Ensure lab safety, organization, and inventory management.

QuantumDiamonds is building the world's first commercial quantum sensing tools for chip failure analysis. As our Quantum Lab Engineering Intern, you will take on a rare hands-on challenge: building up a brand-new Quantum Diamond Microscope (QDM) lab setup from the ground up, together with our hardware and R&D teams.

At the same time, you will keep our existing lab running: supporting the assembly, testing, and characterization of our quantum sensing systems, and working with lasers, optics, RF components, and diamond quantum sensors. You will see a quantum lab come to life and keep one running, all within six months.

This is a full-time internship for 6 months, starting as soon as possible.

What will you do

• Build up a new QDM lab setup from scratch: planning the layout, installing optical tables, lasers, microscopes, and RF electronics, and bringing the system into operation
• Support the setup, maintenance, alignment, and calibration of lab equipment across our labs
• Assist in assembling and testing opto-electronic and mechanical components used in our sensor heads and systems
• Prepare and execute measurement routines (e.g., fluorescence imaging, magnetic field scans) in collaboration with physicists and engineers
• Ensure lab safety, cleanliness, and organization, including inventory management and procurement of supplies
• Maintain detailed experimental documentation and support quality assurance processes
• Participate in troubleshooting and continuous improvement of lab procedures

What is expected of you

• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Physics, Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or comparable practical training
• Available full time for 6 months, starting as soon as possible
• First hands-on experience in a lab environment; experience with optics, lasers, or RF electronics is a strong plus
• Familiarity with laboratory measurement instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies)
• Hands-on mindset with high attention to detail and cleanliness
• Proactive, reliable, and comfortable working independently in a dynamic R&D environment
• Fluent in English
