Technische Universität München (TUM) invites applications for a full-time ELAI Coordinator to manage international project coordination, research funding and proposal development. The role embeds within the ELLIS Unit Munich and MCML, coordinating entrepreneurship activities for AI researchers and working with a pan-European network.

The ideal candidate brings several years of EU-funded project experience, strong English and German language skills, and a proactive, structured work style.

Qualifikationen

• University degree in science, engineering, computer science; PhD advantageous.

Aufgaben

• Coordinate ELAI’s institutional development activities and work with partner organisations.
• Develop ELAI’s long-term institutional strategy and partnerships.
• Co-coordinate the ELLIS Unit Munich.

• Develop institutional, industry and philanthropic funding opportunities.
• Initiate and coordinate joint funding proposals within ELAI.

• Coordinate ELAI Innovation PhD track with entrepreneurship.

TUM is seeking a full-time project manager from 01.01.2027. The position is initially limited to 4 years.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is a partner in the European Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence (ELAI), a pan-European initiative bringing together leading AI research institutions. To support TUM’s role in ELAI, we are looking for an ELAI Coordinator. The position combines international project coordination, research funding and proposal development, and the coordination of entrepreneurship activities for AI researchers. The successful candidate will work closely with ELAI partners across Europe and contribute to the initiative’s long-term institutional and financial development. The position will also be embedded in the ELLIS Unit Munich and the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML), a joint research initiative of TUM and LMU.

Your tasks

Project Coordination

• Support the coordination of ELAI’s institutional development activities and work with partner organisations.
• Contribute to the development of ELAI’s long-term institutional strategy, the admission of new partner sites and the further development of existing sites.
• Co-coordinate the ELLIS Unit Munich.
• Coordinate the preparation of progress and final reports.
• Identify relevant European, national and multilateral funding opportunities for ELAI, particularly Horizon Europe and AI in Science calls.
• Develop institutional, industry and philanthropic funding opportunities for ELAI.
• Initiate and coordinate joint funding proposals within ELAI.
• Build proposal teams and connect ELAI partners with suitable calls and consortia.
• Maintain a central overview of secured and prospective ELAI funding.
• Coordinate, together with partner universities, the development and implementation of the ELAI Innovation PhD track, combining doctoral research with entrepreneurship and innovation activities.
• Contribute to the coordination of entrepreneurship and innovation activities for participating researchers.

Fundraising And Proposal Development

• Identify relevant European, national and multilateral funding opportunities for ELAI, particularly Horizon Europe and AI in Science calls.
• Develop institutional, industry and philanthropic funding opportunities for ELAI.
• Initiate and coordinate joint funding proposals within ELAI.
• Build proposal teams and connect ELAI partners with suitable calls and consortia.
• Maintain a central overview of secured and prospective ELAI funding.

Innovation And Entrepreneurship

• Coordinate, together with partner universities, the development and implementation of the ELAI Innovation PhD track, combining doctoral research with entrepreneurship and innovation activities.
• Contribute to the coordination of entrepreneurship and innovation activities for participating researchers.

Collaboration And Networking

• Work closely with academic, institutional, industry and public-sector partners at regional, national and European level.
• Represent the ELLIS Unit Munich in discussions on ELAI’s operating model and support the local implementation of agreed procedures.

Your profile

• University degree, preferably in science, engineering, computer science, research management or a related field. A PhD is an advantage.
• Several years’ experience in EU-funded research projects, research funding or proposal development.
• Several years’ experience in project management.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills.
• Ability to coordinate international partners and manage parallel deadlines.
• Excellent written and spoken English (C1); good written and spoken German skills (B2 and higher).
• Experience with Horizon Europe, entrepreneurship programmes, technology transfer or cooperation with industry is desirable.
• Independent, structured and proactive working style.
• Strong communication skills, as well as intercultural competence and sensitivity—gained, for example, during extended stays abroad.
