The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Qualitative Methods in Educational Research. The position will be based in the School of Education. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
  • We are seeking a personality who demonstrates outstanding expertise in qualitative methods in educational research. The applicant should substantially advance both the institute’s thematic priorities and research on qualitative methods, for example in the areas of digitalization in schools and higher education or classroom interactions. Connections to the field of Artificial Intelligence are desirable, particularly with regard to the further development of qualitative research in this area.
  • A strong willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the Institute of Educational Research as well as across schools is expected (e.g., in relation to the interfaculty activity fields “Next Generation Learning, Teaching and Knowledge Transfer”, “AI for Empowering the Future” and/or the “Interdisciplinary Project Forums on Teacher Education” (InProf)).
  • Proficiency in quantitative research methods is required, and close collaboration with the quantitative methods unit of the Institute for Educational Research is expected (in terms of mixed methods).
  • Teaching focuses on the educational science components of the Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degree programmes. The candidate is expected to contribute to the development of new teaching concepts, e.g., in the module ‘Research Project’.
  • The candidate should also participate in the doctoral training programmes of the Graduate School of Education and help shape the methodological advisory and support services for empirical theses and qualification projects of students and doctoral candidates.
  • Active participation in academic self-governance is regarded as a matter of course.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completed degree (university or university of applied sciences) in a relevant field, e.g., in Teacher Education, Special Needs Education, Empirical Educational Research, Psychology, Education, Educational Sciences, Sociology
  • Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate.
  • Further relevant scientific achievements performed during a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad
  • Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure

You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by relevant empirical publications, including in peer-reviewed journals, through an international orientation (e.g., international collaborations), through a track record of successfully acquiring competitive third-party funding (e.g., German Research Foundation (DFG) or BMFTR), through experience in integrating qualitative and quantitative research approaches, documented by research projects or publications, and through experience in structured doctoral studies. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.

At the University of Wuppertal, we appreciate individual and cultural differences of our employees and support gender equality, equal opportunities, reconciliation of family and working life. Applications from persons of any gender and persons with disabilities as well as persons with an equivalent status are highly welcome. In accordance with the Gender Equality Act of North Rhine-Westphalia, women will be given preferential consideration unless there are compelling reasons in favour of an applicant who is not female. The same applies to applications from disabled persons, who will be given preference in the case of equal suitability.
