Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei’s Nuremberg Research Center is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

As an employee, you will be part of the HUAWEI Energy R&D Competence Center in Nuremberg.

Principal Power Electronics R&D Engineer (m/f/d) - Solar PV / BESS (m/f/d)
Your mission
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and refine needs and formulate system requirements in application domains in Digital Power Business
  • Promote technology roadmap development in your technical domain for next generation products in Digital Power products such as in PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage solutions (BESS)
  • Execute the development of novel Power Conversion architecture and converter typologies
  • Lead the parameter design, component layout, prototype build-up and subsequent verification and validation of converter concepts in the R&D laboratories
  • Technical lead research projects related to Solar PV domain
  • Mentor less experienced staff members
Your areas of expertise
  • Essential: Master (MSc.) or PhD in the field of power electronics, in electrical and electronic engineering or power engineering plus relevant work experience after the university degree
  • Extensive theoretical understanding of basic power electronic converter principles, magnetic component designs, power semiconductor devices and power converter control
  • Successful industrial experiences in the product development and release is desirable
  • Proven hand‑on experiences on power converter prototype building and verification
  • Proven capability for analysis, design, simulation & verification of key design parameters in power converter technologies, such as power loss analysis, semiconductor selection, magnetic component design, PCB design, modulation techniques etc.
  • High level of self‑reliance and an autonomous target‑oriented work style, “can do” attitude, eager to learn new things and ready to think outside the box
  • Occasional travel related to ongoing projects
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, willingness to learn German, additional languages are a plus
