The Faculty of Natural Sciences, Chair of Inorganic Chemistry, is seeking to fill position at the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry, subject to the provision and approval of external funding by the external funding body:
Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)
(100 %, salary group 13 TV-L)
for a fixed term of 30 months. Selection will occur according to suitability, qualification and professional performance. Chemnitz University of Technology aims to particularly support women and therefore explicitly asks for applications from qualified female candidates. Severely disabled persons or those with an equivalent status will be considered preferentially in accordance with SGB IX.
The fixed-term appointment is in accordance with the provisions of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) and the Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz (SächsHSG) as amended.
The above-mentioned position is being advertised as part of the project 'Bis(carbene) Analogues of Aluminium and Gallium as Building Blocks for Highly Selective Reagents and Next Generation Catalysts - AGILE' funded by the European Union and the European Research Council (ERC). The project focuses on the synthesis and characterization of bis(carbene) analogues of aluminium and gallium and their use as selective reagents, efficient catalysts and as ligands for transition metals.
The candidate for this position will join the research group of Robert Kretschmer, who holds the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at Chemnitz University of Technology. Research in the Kretschmer group is based in the field of synthetic molecular chemistry and focuses on the development of new molecules based on sustainable elements with applications ranging from bond activation and functionalisation to catalysis and new materials. The group is part of the Institute of Chemistry ( https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/chemie/index.php ) at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Chemnitz University of Technology, which provides a wide range of state-of-the-art experimental techniques and facilities for molecular and solid-state research.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with a PhD in molecular inorganic chemistry preferably in the area of main-group chemistry. A very good understanding of molecular synthesis, experience with the relevant techniques (Schlenk technique and glovebox) and characterisation of compounds using state-of-the-art methods including 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, hetero-nuclei), single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry are essential. Experience with programming/data visualisation using Python is very welcome. We value a diverse and inclusive working environment with a variety of international collaborators. Therefore, a good command of written and spoken English and openness to exchange with international co-workers are essential.
