Zusammenfassung

The University of Duisburg-Essen’s Disch group invites applications for a PhD position in chemistry focused on structure-property relations in nanoscale materials and proton-conducting perovskites. You will synthesize materials, perform scattering experiments at large facilities, and analyze crystallographic data to understand diffusion processes.

The role involves publishing results and collaborating across disciplines.

Qualifikationen

  • University degree in chemistry or related field (8 semesters or equivalent).
  • Interest in structure-property relationships in nanoscale materials.
  • Experience with synthesis and characterization of inorganic nanoscale materials.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Self-initiative, analytical thinking, creativity, and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Background in crystallography and X-ray or neutron scattering is advantageous.
  • Experience with handling large datasets and/or programming is advantageous.

Aufgaben

  • Synthesize perovskite proton-conducting materials and characterize their structural and physical properties.
  • Conduct scattering experiments at large-scale facilities (synchrotron/neutron).
  • Analyze local and long-range crystallographic structure using total scattering / PDF analysis.
  • Investigate proton diffusion using neutron scattering techniques.
  • Document research results and manage research data.
  • Present and publish results at national and international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals; contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration.

Jobbeschreibung

Location
Application area

Faculty of Chemistry

Research activities in the Disch group are centered on the structure, magnetism, and dynamics in functional nanoscale materials. Our long-term goal is an understanding of structure and magnetism from the atomic scale through nanoscale morphology to macroscopic applications. We address this using and developing novel X-ray and neutron scattering methods, combined with macroscopic magnetization measurements.

You will be embedded in the international, DFG-funded research collaboration MemGrain, which investigates the effect of nanoscale grain boundaries on the proton conduction in barium zirconate membranes. The project combines materials synthesis with structural analysis and diffusion studies by X-ray and neutron scattering.
