Jobbeschreibung

Would you like to contribute to the development of next-generation biotherapeutics?

At Boehringer Ingelheim’s research site in Biberach, Germany, you will contribute to the advanced characterization of next-generation biotherapeutics and help deepen our understanding of their structure-function relationships.
This position is ideal for a scientifically curious researcher with expertise in therapeutic protein characterization who enjoys structuring complex datasets, collaborating across disciplines, and developing projects from concept to implementation. You will work closely with experts in mass spectrometry, physicochemical analytics, structural biology, bioinformatics, data science, and CMC project teams. Together, you will establish a foundation for the predictive and data-driven development of biologics.

This position is limited for 2 years. This position is part time eligible with 80 %.

Tasks & responsibilities
  • As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Structure-Function Analytics (SFA) group, you will leverage your expertise and enthusiasm to drive mass spectrometry and protein physicochemical, chromatographical, and electrophoretic characterization, focusing on structure-function relationships. In this context, you will focus on the advanced characterization of innovative therapeutic proteins
  • Leading and driving a scientific innovative project, you focus on structure-function relationships and predictive assessment/s, ensuring their effective implementation within our interdisciplinary team
  • You approach scientific questions from the biopharmaceutical characterization with curiosity and an open mind, thoroughly investigating underlying causalities, identify actionable insights, and translate them into impactful contributions for your team or organization
  • Collaborating with internal and external (international) stakeholders, including data scientists and digital experts, you explore application solutions, AI-enabled interpretation approaches, similarity profiling, and in silico prediction concepts
  • Driving project planning, milestone tracking, stakeholder communication, and scientific decision-making, you work in close alignment with the laboratory head and cross-functional collaborators
  • Preparation of high-quality scientific summaries, presentations, recommendations, and publication-ready outputs for internal and external audiences motivates and excites you
Requirements
  • A university degree in biochemistry, protein chemistry, analytical chemistry, bioinformatics, structural biology, pharmaceutical sciences or a related scientific discipline, with a completed PhD
  • Strong scientific background in therapeutic protein or biologics characterization, ideally including monoclonal antibodies, antibody-derived formats, recombinant proteins, or other complex biologic modalities
  • Hands‑on expertise with advanced analytical technologies including mass spectrometry‑based protein analytics (peptide mapping, intact and subunit level), chromatography (SEC, IEX, RP, HIC), and related advanced analytical technologies, including corresponding relevant data evaluation software packages such as Chromeleon, Empower, and UniFi. Practical experience with the GeneData Biologics Suite (such as Expressionist, Screener, Chromatics) would be an advantage
  • Comprehensive understanding of structure‑function relationships of biotherapeutics, higher‑order structure, protein stability, degradation pathways, molecular liabilities, critical quality attributes, and functional characterization of biologics
  • Natural curiosity for scientific exploration, conceptual thinking, scientific rigor, and enthusiasm for building new approaches that connect experimental protein analytics with digital and predictive technologies
  • Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken
