The University of Konstanz invites applications for a three-year full-time post‑doctoral position affiliated with the Chair of Comparative Political Economy in the Department of Politics and Public Administration. This project investigates radical technological change and welfare state dynamics, with strong emphasis on public opinion.

The successful candidate will conduct qualitative case studies, design expert interviews and focus groups, analyse data, and contribute to disseminating findings

Job Summary

The University of Konstanz is seeking a post‑doctoral researcher affiliated with the Chair of Comparative Political Economy (Prof. Dr. Marius R. Busemeyer) in the
Department of Politics and Public Administration. The position is part of the research project Radical Technological Change and the Welfare State: Consequences and Interactions Reflected in Public Opinion, funded by DIFIS.

Employment Conditions

Full‑time, E 13 TV‑L, fixed‑term for three years. Initial start date: January 1st 2027; position available until December 31st 2029.

Responsibilities

• Conduct qualitative case studies
• Design and conduct expert interviews and focus groups
• Analyse qualitative research data
• Present and disseminate research findings
• Contribute to the overall development of the project

Competencies

• PhD in political science, sociology, social policy or related discipline
• Interest and experience in social policy research
• Knowledge of qualitative research methods and experience conducting case studies, ideally focus groups
• Familiarity with quantitative methods, including survey and experimental research designs, constitutes an advantage
• Excellent German and English writing and communication skills
