Jobbeschreibung

We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher who shares our ambition to discover innovative therapeutic strategies for the treatment of sarcopenia. Our goal is to identify and understand pathways that govern skeletal muscle function, metabolism and energy expenditure and use them for therapeutic interventions. In your role, you will work in vitro to investigate the effects of modulating specific pathomechanisms driving sarcopenia on muscle contraction.

Join our team and closely interact with experts in the field of cardio-metabolic disease, pharmacology, computational biology and drug discovery research. This Position is limited for 2 years. Note: To make it easier to find our job advertisements, we use the usual designation "Post Doc". Of course, this advertisement is not only addressed to applicants directly after completing their doctorate, but to all qualified candidates.

Tasks & responsibilities
  • In your new role you will use state of the art methods to measure muscle contraction in vitro using the Mantarray system.
  • You will be working with primary human muscle cells and immortalized human muscle cells to study effects of modulating myosteatosis, calcium signaling and neuromuscular junction establishment on muscle contraction.
  • In your role, you will investigate cellular and molecular changes in muscle cells, tissues and 3D tissues upon interventions.
  • Furthermore, you will explore changes in energy metabolism performing seahorse measurements.
  • You will work in a stimulating environment, in collaboration with experts in the field and be part of interdisciplinary teams involving cellular and molecular biologist, bioinformaticians, and pharmacologists.
  • In addition, you will present your results at internal and external meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
  • PhD degree in biology, medicine, pharmacology or related field with strong background in molecular and cell biology
  • Strong understanding and experience with skeletal muscle biology is required
  • Working knowledge of cell culture and common in vitro tools/techniques (primary cell culture, viral work, imaging techniques, seahorse, gene expression) to study signal transduction and energy metabolism
  • Experience with the Mantarray assay is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to independently design and conduct experiments, interpret data, and determine project direction
  • Very good oral communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to work in a drug-discovery oriented environment with multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated track record of publications in scientific journals
  • Fluent language skills in English are mandatory, German language skills are a plus
