Job summary

Apple is seeking a PHY Cellular Firmware Engineering Intern in Munich to join a team responsible for the development of PHY firmware features in 4G-LTE and 5G-NR. You will define features, explore concepts, and support models to validate robust performance while aiming for power- and area-efficient implementations.

The role requires coursework in EE and hands-on experience with C/C++ or Python for algorithm development, with strong communication skills in English for a globally located team.

Qualifications

Description

As a PHY Cellular Firmware Engineering Intern, you will join a team responsible for the development of PHY firmware features in 4G-LTE and 5G-NR. In this role, you will (1) define features and requirements, (2) explore and propose concepts and

algorithms, (3) develop and simulate models to validate robust functionality and performance, and/or (4) contribute to power- and area-efficient implementation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. degree program in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Availability for 6 months or longer.
• Solid foundations in signal processing and communication theory
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Solid grasp of engineering mathematics, including linear algebra, probability and random processes.
• Experience with C/C++ and/or Python for algorithm development, modeling.
• Strong teamwork spirit, respect for diverse viewpoints, ability to effectively communicate (in English) and work with a globally located team across different time-zones.
• Eagerness to learn new things and take up new challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• In addition, candidates with strengths in one or more of the following areas will be given preference.
• Familiarity with embedded firmware development for cellular PHY, including real-time constraints, DSP/vector processors, and hardware/software co-design.
• Familiarity with cellular communication standards, in particular 4G-LTE and 5G-NR RAN1/RAN4, including PHY procedures.
