Apple Inc. in Munich seeks a PHY Cellular Firmware Engineering Intern to join a team developing PHY firmware for 4G-LTE and 5G-NR.

You will define features, explore concepts, and develop/simulate models to validate robust performance, contributing to power- and area-efficient implementation. The role requires an MS/PhD in EE, availability for 6+ months, strong signal processing and math foundations, and proficiency in C/C++ and/or Python.

• Currently enrolled in a MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Availability for 6 months or longer.
• Solid foundations in signal processing and communication theory
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Solid grasp of engineering mathematics, including linear algebra, probability and random processes.
• Experience with C/C++ and/or Python for algorithm development, modeling.
• Strong teamwork spirit, respect for diverse viewpoints, ability to effectively communicate (in English) and work with a globally located team across time-zones.
• Eagerness to learn new things and take up new challenges.

Description

As a PHY Cellular Firmware Engineering Intern, you will join a team responsible for the development of PHY firmware features in 4G-LTE and 5G-NR. In this role, you will (1) define features and requirements, (2) explore and propose concepts andalgorithms, (3) develop and simulate models to validate robust functionality and performance, and/or (4) contribute to power- and area-efficient implementation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a M.S. or Ph.D. degree program in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Availability for 6 months or longer.
• Solid foundations in signal processing and communication theory
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Solid grasp of engineering mathematics, including linear algebra, probability and random processes.
• Experience with C/C++ and/or Python for algorithm development, modeling.
• Strong teamwork spirit, respect for diverse viewpoints, ability to effectively communicate (in English) and work with a globally located team across different time-zones.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition, candidates with strengths in one or more of the following areas will be given preference.

• Familiarity with embedded firmware development for cellular PHY, including real-time constraints, DSP/vector processors, and hardware/software co-design.
• Familiarity with cellular communication standards, in particular 4G-LTE and 5G-NR RAN1/RAN4, including PHY procedures.
