Responsibilities
- Carry out the PhD research project “High resolution measurements of the electronic response of materials in Warm Dense Matter” at the HED instrument
- Plan, prepare, and perform x‑ray heating experiments, and shock‑compression experiments using the DiPOLE laser system
- Acquire, analyse, and interpret experiment data, combining spectroscopy and diffraction with theoretical models and simulations
- Present results at international conferences and workshops, and publish in peer‑reviewed journals
- Actively participate in the collaborative research environment at HED, including interaction with external user groups and research consortia
- Successfully complete and defend a doctoral thesis within the project duration
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or a related field, preferably with a background in experimental plasma physics, atomic physics, x‑ray techniques or related areas
- Prior experience with experimental methods in x‑ray optics, spectroscopy, or plasma physics is advantageous
- Strong interest in HED physics and motivation to work in large‑scale international research collaborations
- Basic programming and data analysis skills; familiarity with python is beneficial
- Good communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English
- Readiness to participate in experimental experiments, including shift work
