ElsaesserLab at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, invites applications for a funded PhD position in Experimental Space Biology and Biophysics.
The successful candidate will contribute to ExocubeBio, part of the ESA-selected Exocube experiment for the International Space Station (ISS). The research investigates how microorganisms respond to space conditions, combining microbial cultivation, microfluidic experiments, in-situ fluorescence and absorption measurements, and laboratory reference experiments.
The project combines experimental microbiology, biophysics, and laboratory simulations of space environments to investigate microbial survival and physiological responses under environmental stress relevant to planetary science and astrobiology.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in microbiology, biology, biophysics, biotechnology, or a related discipline. Practical laboratory experience in microbiological methods and microbial cultivation is particularly important. Experience with fluorescence spectroscopy, microscopy, or microfluidics is welcome.
