  • Previous teaching experience, particularly in physical chemistry, physics, chemistry or related subjects, is advantageous.
  • You are highly motivated to acquire new experimental and analytical skills and to work independently on a challenging interdisciplinary research project.
  • You have an excellent command of written and spoken English.

This post is designed to serve in fostering young researchers and scientists and give the successful applicant the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. Another requirement for employment is a commitment from the doctoral supervisors to supervise the successful applicant in the doctoral program within the framework of the GAUSS doctoral program.

We are looking for Ph.D. students working in the following area:

Project decription: The doctoral project will investigate how different actin-binding proteins influence the organisation, dynamics and mechanical properties of actin filaments and networks. Using reconstituted actin systems, quantitative fluorescence microscopy and complementary biophysical methods, the successful candidate will analyse molecular interactions and their effects on network structure, viscoelasticity and force transmission. The project combines experimental biophysics, protein biochemistry and quantitative data analysis.
Who we are: In the Janshoff group, we aim to understand the physical principles governing the organisation and mechanics of biological systems. We combine methods from physical chemistry, biophysics and cell biology, including fluorescence microscopy, atomic force microscopy, force spectroscopy and quantitative data analysis. We offer an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment with a strong focus on rigorous experimental work and scientific exchange.
