A leading research institute in Bochum is offering a master's thesis opportunity in the field of energy transition. The role involves tasks related to thermodynamics and optimization processes in geothermal energy. Candidates should be students in mechanical, energy, or process engineering with skills in multiphase thermodynamics and programming. The position offers flexibility and active participation in projects.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Infrastructure and Geothermal Energy IEG conducts research at seven locations in the fields of integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal energy, and sector coupling for a successful energy transition. Our research institute conducts applied research, develops innovative technologies for public and industrial clients, and translates these into marketable products and processes.
At Fraunhofer IEG, engineers in the field of “process engineering” are working to advance the energy transition in industrial processes. The aim is to replace fossil raw materials and integrate sustainable energy sources into industrial value chains.
To this end, we develop processes, components, and plants – from laboratory test benches to the integration of new thermodynamic or material processes into existing large-scale plants. Our work ranges from conception and design to dimensioning, construction, commissioning, and optimization of plant operation.
As an interface between science and industry, we evaluate technical and economic feasibility, operate our own test facilities, and develop simulation models and control concepts for complex systems. Our areas of expertise include thermodynamic storage and converters, heat pumps, binary power plant processes, water desalination, gas processing, and integration into district heating systems.
For our team at the Bochum site, we offer the opportunity to participate in the further development and implementation of these technologies as part of a master's thesis.
We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Remuneration according to the general works agreement for employing assistant staff.
With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
