Jobbeschreibung
Job Description

Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Master’s Thesis Student (d/f/m) in the field of Manufacturing Process Simulation to support us in the Airplane Doors Department. This 6‑month thesis will be carried out at our Donauwörth site.

Location & Duration

Location: Donauwörth
Start: as soon as possible
Duration: 6 months

Project Overview

In modern aircraft construction, the substitution of metallic components with thermoplastic fibre‑reinforced composites is a decisive step towards lighter, more efficient and cost‑effective structures. Carbon‑fiber reinforced Polyaryletherketone (C/PAEK) is used in primary and secondary structures due to its mechanical performance, chemical resistance and high temperature stability. The manufacturing of structural parts by thermoforming promises high automation and short cycle times, yet achieving the required geometric tolerances is challenging because of process‑induced warping. The overarching objective of this thesis is to develop and validate a simulation strategy for warpage prediction of thermoplastic airplane door components manufactured by thermoforming.

Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review.
  • Develop and implement a simulation strategy for warpage prediction of thermoplastic airplane door structures.
  • Perform warpage predictions for a selected reference part.
  • Compare the simulated final geometry with existing measurement data of the real reference part.
  • Apply a tooling compensation procedure.
  • Discuss validation results, critically assess model accuracy and limitations.
  • Document and present the procedure and achieved results.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
  • Enrolled full‑time student in Aerospace Engineering, Lightweight Design, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering or an equivalent field.
  • Strong background in fibre‑reinforced composite mechanics and nonlinear finite element analysis.
  • Mandatory experience with CAE software (ABAQUS, Hyperworks).
  • Desirable basic experience in 3D modelling with CATIA; basic knowledge of Fortran77 or Python is beneficial.
  • Business‑fluent German and English.
Benefits
  • Attractive salary and a 35‑hour work week with flexitime.
  • International environment with opportunities for global networking.
  • Engagement with modern/diversified technologies.
  • Active participation in the Airbus Community to expand your network.
Application Requirements

Please upload: cover letter, CV, relevant transcripts, enrollment certificate, and study regulation.
