Job Description

We are looking for a Data Engineering Manager to join our Logistics vertical on our journey to always deliver amazing experiences. In our Logistics Team, you’ll tackle high-impact challenges that make last-mile delivery efficient, affordable, and sustainable. Your work will directly improve experiences for riders, end customers, and merchants across the globe. Each enhancement you contribute will help Delivery Hero optimize delivery operations, supporting expansion into new areas like grocery and retail.

You would lead our Data Engineering and Machine learning squad who own our Logistics Machine Learning Platform. This platform enables us to rapidly and reliably develop, deploy, and manage machine learning models that support essential business areas such as delivery time estimations and routing.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of data and machine learning engineers to design, build, and maintain robust MLOps architecture, ensuring the ML lifecycle operates efficiently at scale.
• Support an established team of data and machine learning engineers in their day-to-day development experience, personal development, and long-term career growth.
• Own the execution and development of functionalities in small iterations that deliver value.
• Stakeholder management across multiple brands of Delivery Hero.
• Drive project and tech strategy across the Domain.
• Raise the Bar in operational excellence and product delivery.
• Partner with your product counterpart and provide technical direction to your team, facilitating the design of feasible and iterative solutions aligned with the business needs.
• Own the tech metrics and KPIs of your team, ensuring full visibility, tracking, and alerting.
• Provide technical support for the design of solutions that are reliable, performing, cost-effective, and scalable to meet the business needs.

Qualifications

• You are a knowledgeable technical guide who aligns with and supports product and business goals.
• You are programming language agnostic with a clear understanding of core concepts, paradigms, and can abstract this knowledge to multiple scenarios.
• ML Engineering Expertise: Extensive experience in data, ML engineering or MLOps. Working knowledge of the ML lifecycle and its ecosystem of tools.
• Cloud Proficiency: Prior experience working with public cloud platforms (GCP/AWS or equivalent) and knowledge of Kubernetes.
• Leadership Acumen: Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers and engineering managers as a direct manager.
• You believe in cross-functional teams and have experience managing projects and dependencies across multiple teams and stakeholders.
• You empower others, and care about your team and your own personal and professional development.

Nice to have

• You are familiar with A/B testing.
• You can be hands-on on demand to support and guide more junior developers.
• You have worked with data-science projects.
