Qualifikationen

• Fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist/in) with German State Exams completed.
• Experience advising on commercial law and contracts.
• Good knowledge of GDPR and data protection.
• Exposure to corporate law, governance or broader company law topics.
• Interest in international and cross-border work.
• Commercially-minded, pragmatic legal advisor.
• Able to work independently and take ownership.

Aufgaben

• Advise the business on data protection, GDPR, and internal compliance matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts.
• Support on corporate and company law matters.
• Advise on cross-border legal matters across Europe and coordinate with external counsel.
• Inform management and business functions on legal risks and practical solutions.
• Assist on employment law topics when needed with HR and external counsel.
• Manage external counsel for specialist advice as required.
• Help develop legal processes, templates and workflows as the business grows.

Deep Blue Recruitment is partnering with a growing European business under private equity ownership to hire a Legal Counsel for its Berlin-based legal team.

This is a broad in-house position offering exposure across the business, with a particular focus on data protection/GDPR, commercial law and corporate matters, alongside occasional employment law topics.

Given the international footprint of the business, you’ll gain regular exposure to cross-border legal work across multiple European jurisdictions, working with colleagues and external advisers across different markets.

Working as part of a lean and highly regarded legal function, you’ll have considerable autonomy and direct exposure to senior decision-makers.

It’s particularly well suited to a lawyer who enjoys variety, wants to work close to the commercial side of the business and is looking for a role where no two days are quite the same.

Tasks

• Advising the business on data protection and GDPR, including commercial data privacy questions and internal compliance matters
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts
• Supporting on corporate and company law matter
• Advising on cross-border legal matters across Europe, coordinating with local stakeholders and external counsel where required
• Advising management and different business functions on legal risks and practical solutions
• Supporting on occasional employment law matters in collaboration with HR and external counsel where required
• Managing external counsel where specialist or jurisdiction-specific advice is required
• Helping further develop legal processes, templates and ways of working as the business evolves

Requirements

• Fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist/in), having completed both German State Examinations
• Experience advising on commercial law and contracts
• Good knowledge of GDPR and data protection
• Exposure to corporate law, governance or broader company law topics
• An interest in international and cross-border work
• An interest in working across areas outside your immediate specialism
• A pragmatic, commercially minded approach to legal advice
• Confidence working independently and taking ownership of matters
• The ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and non-legal colleagues

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you’ll also have direct access to the C-team and private equity stakeholders, giving you a level of exposure that can be difficult to find at Legal Counsel level.
