Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead System Engineer (d/f/m) to join our dynamic team in the Airbus Defence and Space Team for upcoming and existing projects from German and international customers.

The successful candidate will lead a technical team across multiple sites, overseeing system breakdown, requirements engineering, testing, and planning while ensuring high‑quality deliverables. Reporting to the Chief Engineer and line management, this role requires strong decision‑making, self‑organization, and the ability to motivate others in a fast‑paced, agile environment.

At the Airbus site in Friedrichshafen / Immenstaad you will be working on innovation while enjoying panoramic views of Lake Constance, a canteen, and corporate sports groups for running, sailing or skiing.

Your tasks and responsibilities
  • Lead Technical Teams: manage and guide multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple sites
  • System Breakdown: oversee the decomposition of complex systems into subsystems and components
  • Project Planning and Execution: create and maintain project schedules and execute plans
  • Decision‑Making: make critical technical and strategic decisions to resolve issues and drive project progress
  • Quality and Progress Monitoring, reporting, and applying agile methodologies to manage workflows
  • Motivate team members, encouraging innovation, accountability, and high performance
  • Ensure compliance with defense industry standards and regulations
  • Travel as needed to coordinate with teams, stakeholders, and clients
Desired skills and qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on the defense or automotive industry.
  • Proven expertise in system breakdown, requirements engineering, and testing.
  • Experience leading technical teams and managing projects across multiple sites.
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies, specifically Scrum and SAFe would be beneficial.
