Role Summary

The Lead Solution Architect is responsible for evaluating and defining the future

architecture for a patient-facing peripheral platform within a connected healthcare

ecosystem.

This role assesses hardware, software, and deployment options to identify a scalable,

secure, and cost-effective solution that supports patient identification, clinical workflows,

peripheral device integration, and digital data collection across cloud-connected, hybrid,

and offline environments.

The architect will develop architectural recommendations, evaluate technology

alternatives, define integration approaches, and establish a roadmap that balances

current business needs with future platform evolution.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Strategy

  • Define the target architecture for the patient and peripheral platform.
  • Evaluate commercial, custom-built, embedded, tablet-based, and kiosk-based solutions.
  • Assess architecture alternatives based on technical fit, lifecycle, cost, risk, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Create architectural recommendations and decision records.

Solution Evaluation

  • Lead structured trade-off analyses across hardware and software options.
  • Develop business and technical recommendations for leadership and engineering teams.
  • Balance short-term delivery objectives with long-term platform sustainability.

Platform Integration

  • Define integration patterns with clinical applications, identity services, connected medical devices, edge environments, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems.
  • Establish interface standards, communication patterns, and data exchange requirements.
  • Ensure compatibility across online, intermittently connected, and offline deployment models.

Patient Identification & Workflow Design

  • Define architectures supporting modern identification methods such as NFC, QR codes, biometric authentication, and identity federation.
  • Support clinical workflows including patient onboarding, treatment preparation, and data capture.
  • Ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Peripheral Connectivity

  • Define integration approaches for devices such as scales, blood pressure monitors, temperature sensors, and future clinical peripherals.
  • Establish standards for USB, Bluetooth, Ethernet, serial communication, and emerging connectivity technologies.
  • Enable extensibility for future device types and use cases.

Security & Compliance

  • Incorporate security-by-design and privacy-by-design principles.
  • Define approaches for device identity, secure boot, authentication, authorization, encryption, and remote management.
  • Support compliance with applicable healthcare, cybersecurity, and quality standards.

Migration & Modernization

  • Support coexistence between existing and future technologies where required.

Stakeholder Leadership

  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, quality, regulatory, cybersecurity, operations, and enterprise architecture teams.
  • Lead architecture reviews and technical decision-making activities.
  • Provide clear communication of architectural direction, risks, and trade-offs.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in solution or system architecture for complex, distributed systems.
  • Experience evaluating hardware and software platforms and defining long-term technology strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of edge computing, cloud platforms, device connectivity, identity management, and distributed architectures.
  • Experience integrating hardware devices with enterprise and cloud-based applications.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Success Criteria

Success in this role is demonstrated by:

  • Delivery of a clear architectural strategy and technology recommendation.
  • Well-documented trade-off analyses and architectural decisions.
  • Seamless integration with existing digital platforms and workflows.
  • Reduced technical risk and architectural complexity.
  • Scalable and maintainable solutions supporting long-term business objectives.
