About the Position
Lead Animal Caretaker will work at the Saber Pet Lodge, Spangdahlem AB, Germany. This full‑time, on‑site position offers great opportunities for career growth and is flexible, with a maximum of 40 hours per week. The work schedule is Monday through Sunday, including holidays.
Military Spouse Preference is not lost if selected for this position. Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the care of dogs, cats, and other pets staying at the Saber Pet Lodge, including providing food and water, handling, walking and supervising animals.
- Will be responsible for bathing, brushing and trimming nails of animals in the kennel and grooming areas.
- Will administer oral, topical and subcutaneous medications when required.
- Monitors animals' health and alerts manager if there are any changes.
- Responsible for keeping all areas of the building clean (vacuum, dust, mop, and sanitize), to include, but not limited to, hallways, kennels and yard.
- Will wash bedding, blankets and towels as needed.
- Responsible for cleaning up urine and feces, inside and outside.
- Maintains animal records, checks pets in and out and maintains a daily checklist for each pet.
- May transport animals to/from veterinary appointments, lodging and Frankfurt International Airport.
- Maintains monthly facility, fire extinguisher, internal and external inspections.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- May be exposed to strong odors, feces, urine, animal hair, blood, scratches and bites during normal handling of animals.
- May also be exposed to parasites and contagious disease.

Experience
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
- Must have previous animal care experience such as experience working in a kennel, grooming facility, or veterinary clinic.
- Ability to operate small hand tools and lawn mower.
- Must be able to follow simple oral instructions and ability to handle various animals safely.
- Must be able to maneuver and pick up animals in order to evaluate health and to groom them.
- Must follow instructions provided by owners, manager and/or veterinarian.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

Benefits & Pay
Pay: $19.48 per hour. NAF Pay Setting Rules: Apply Pay scale & grade NA 4. Promotion potential: None. Pay scale and grade determines the salary of the job.
