The Max-Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy (MBI) conducts basic research in the field of nonlinear optics and ultrafast dynamics arising from the interaction of light with matter. It develops and uses ultrafast and ultra-intense lasers and laser-driven short-pulse light sources across a broad spectral range, including XUV radiation and soft x-rays, complemented by accelerator-driven sources like free electron x-ray lasers. MBI fulfills a national mission and is part of the international scientific community.

Job profile:

Seeking a motivated individual with technical education and experience in scientific instrumentation, experimental techniques, and computer technology to support our research team in a laboratory environment, assist with computer-related issues, and contribute to research activities.

Your tasks include:

• Providing general and operational laboratory support.
• Designing and implementing simple mechanical arrangements.
• Testing and implementing new devices.
• Organizing opto-electronic measuring stations and electronics.
• Documenting IT issues (ticketing).
• Maintaining software licenses and hardware in cooperation with central IT.
• Configuring Windows computers at the division.

Requirements:

• Completed vocational training in a technical field or equivalent professional experience.
• Reliability, independence, and technical sensitivity.
• Motivation, organization, open-mindedness, and problem-solving skills.
• Fluent communication in German and English.
• Deep knowledge of current Windows operating systems (Win 7 and above).
• Experience with CAD software (e.g., Zemax, ASAP) is highly valued.
• Experience with vacuum, optics, and laser technology is advantageous.
