Job summary

Scalable Capital is seeking a backend engineer to Build and evolve payment services using Kotlin/Java and Spring Boot, connecting customer-facing products with internal banking systems. You will design domain models and event-driven workflows, write secure, tested code, and operate cloud-native apps on AWS with modern DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• Strong experience building backend services with Kotlin or Java and Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of Domain-Driven Design and translating complex processes into software models.
• Experience designing and operating distributed, event-driven systems and APIs.
• Familiarity with cloud-native development on AWS, including containerised and serverless workloads.
• Confidence with automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code and production observability.
• Quality and security mindset with focus on reliability and maintainability.
• Clear communication and collaborative approach to solving problems.
• Interest in complex financial workflows or willingness to learn quickly.
• Exposure to SEPA payments or payment processing is a plus.
• University degree in a relevant field or comparable qualification.

Build and evolve business-critical payment services using Kotlin, Java and Spring Boot, enabling customers to move money reliably through SEPA while supporting the wider banking platform. Develop services across the payment lifecycle, including initiation, validation, execution, status handling, returns, exception management and reconciliation. Design clear domain models, APIs and event-driven workflows connecting customer-facing products with internal systems and external banking partners. Write clean, secure, well-tested and maintainable code, with particular attention to correctness, resilience and traceability when moving money. Develop and operate cloud-native applications on AWS, including containerised services on ECS and event-driven workloads on Lambda. Shape reliable delivery and operations with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, observability and monitoring. Work in autonomous, cross-functional teams using agile practices, Domain-Driven Design, code reviews, automated testing and continuous delivery. Take ownership from idea to production, delivering measurable value while improving quality, automation, reliability and developer experience.
