Job summary

Giesecke+Devrient in Munich seeks an experienced Linux systems administrator for a mission-critical datacenter environment. You will drive design, automation, patching and hardening of enterprise systems, while collaborating with security, network and cloud teams.

You will work hands-on with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Satellite and backup/monitoring solutions, ensuring high availability, reliability and security in our enterprise infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent with professional IT experience.
• Strong Linux admin experience (prefer Red Hat).
• Experience with automation and standardized operational processes.
• Hands-on with Red Hat Satellite (patch, lifecycle, provisioning).
• Experience with CommVault backup systems.
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring and alerting solutions.
• Willingness for regular on-site work in the datacenter.
• Knowledge of high-availability and disaster recovery concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and continuously improve infrastructure automation processes.
• Administer, maintain, and optimize RHEL environments including Red Hat Satellite.
• Manage and monitor enterprise backup solutions (CommVault).
• Operate and improve the infrastructure monitoring, alerts and visibility.
• Perform on-site datacenter activities including installation and hardware maintenance.
• Ensure server, storage and infrastructure services run reliably in the datacenter.
• Analyze alerts and performance data to prevent service impact.
• Troubleshoot incidents across servers, OS, storage, backup, and monitoring.
• Support patching, configuration, and hardening of server environments.
• Contribute to IT infrastructure architecture and standards.
• Identify opportunities to increase automation, reliability and scalability.
• Participate in incident, problem and change management processes.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base articles.

Your Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of infrastructure automation processes
• Administer, maintain, and optimize Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, including Red Hat Satellite
• Manage and monitor enterprise backup solutions, particularly CommVault
• Operate and maintain our infrastructure monitoring environment and continuously improve monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility
• Perform on-site datacenter activities, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, hardware replacement, and support of physical infrastructure components
• Operate, maintain, and continuously improve server, storage, and infrastructure services within our enterprise datacenter environment
• Proactively analyze infrastructure alerts, performance data, and system health to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact services
• Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to servers, operating systems, storage, backup, monitoring, and infrastructure services
• Support lifecycle management, patching, configuration, and hardening of server environments
• Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of our IT infrastructure architecture and operational standards
• Identify opportunities to increase automation, reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency
• Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes
• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge base articles
• Share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and contribute to technical training and enablement activities
• Collaborate closely with infrastructure, network, security, cloud, and application teams

Your Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable qualification combined with relevant professional experience
• Strong experience in Linux system administration, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Experience with infrastructure automation and standardized operational processes
• Hands-on experience with Red Hat Satellite, including patch management, lifecycle management, and system provisioning
• Experience with enterprise backup solutions, ideally CommVault
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring and alerting solutions
• Experience operating and troubleshooting infrastructure in enterprise datacenter environments
• Willingness and ability to perform regular on-site work in the datacenter, including hands-on work with physical infrastructure
• Good understanding of high-availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery concepts
• Experience with virtualization, server, and storage technologies is an advantage
• Knowledge of networking and IT security concepts is an advantage
• Experience with scripting and automation technologies such as Bash, Python, or Ansible is desirable
• Ability to analyze monitoring data, system performance, and alerts and translate them into concrete operational actions
