Job summary

Anw.net GmbH is seeking an experienced Senior Linux Administrator to design, deploy, and maintain Linux-based server environments with a focus on cloud and automation. The role includes mentoring juniors and shaping technical direction.

The position offers 80% remote work with on-site presence in the new headquarter in St. Ingbert about one day per week. You will support CI/CD pipelines and container workloads while ensuring security and reliability across on-prem and cloud infra.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional Linux administration experience.
• Deep expertise with Debian-based distributions.
• Strong AWS experience and cloud-native architectures.
• Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S).
• Experience with automation/configuration tools (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef).
• Scripting proficiency in Bash or Python.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• CI/CD experience with GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
• Strong IT security practices and compliance familiarity.
• Observability, monitoring, and logging stacks knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Debian-based Linux servers across on-prem and cloud environments.
• Automate provisioning and deployment with Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.
• Ensure security through patching, hardening, access controls, and compliance.
• Plan capacity management, performance tuning, and high availability strategies.
• Manage DNS, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs.

• Write and maintain Bash/Python scripts to streamline operations.
• Create and maintain runbooks, docs, and DR plans.
• Collaborate with development/DevOps for CI/CD pipelines and container workloads.
• Provide mentorship to junior admins and participate in on-call rotations.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Linux Administrator to join our infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining our Linux-based server environments, with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure and automation. You will play a key part in shaping our technical direction and mentoring junior team members.

This position offers 80% remote work, with on-site presence in our new Headquarter St. Ingbert required approximately one day per week.

Your Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and maintain Debian-based Linux server environments across on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, and deployment processes using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.
• Ensure system security through patch management, hardening, access controls, and compliance with internal policies.
• Plan and execute capacity management, performance tuning, and high-availability strategies.
• Manage and troubleshoot networking services including DNS, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN.
• Develop and maintain monitoring and alerting solutions using tools such as Zabbix.
• Write and maintain scripts in Bash, Python, or similar languages to streamline operations.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and disaster recovery plans.
• Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior administrators.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 system availability.

Your Profile

• 7+ years of professional experience in Linux system administration, with deep expertise in Debian-based distributions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and cloud computing principles, including infrastructure-as-code and cloud-native architectures.
• Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, HTTP/S, SSL/TLS).
• Proven experience with configuration management and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef).
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (Bash, Python).
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and workflows (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
• Strong understanding of IT security best practices, firewall management, and compliance frameworks.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability stacks.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform under pressure.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Fluent in English and German; additional languages are a plus.

Nice to Have

• AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator).
• Experience with other cloud platforms (Azure, GCP).
• Knowledge of database administration (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB).
• Familiarity with ITIL processes or similar operational frameworks.
