Jobbeschreibung

Li Auto's European R&D Center in Munich is at the forefront of next-generation electric vehicle technology. As part of our Power Electronics & Charging Systems team, you will directly support the validation and testing of our proprietary DC boost charging function — a key technology enabling our 800V vehicle architecture to charge efficiently from standard 400V DC charging infrastructure across Europe.

This is a hands-on, hardware-intensive role. You will work alongside experienced engineers on real vehicles, high-voltage bench setups, and charging stations at various test sites across Europe, gaining deep exposure to the full development and validation cycle of an advanced charging technology.

Your Responsibilities
1.Test Planning & Execution
  • Support the design, preparation, and execution of test plans for the DC boost charging function on 800V vehicle platforms;
  • Conduct charging tests at public and semi-public DC charging infrastructure at multiple locations across Europe (travel required);
  • Follow and enforce HV safety protocols (isolation checks, lockout/tagout, PPE) at all test sites.
2.Measurement, Logging & Post-Processing
  • Set up measurement chains for high-voltage and high-current signals using differential probes, Rogowski coils, power analyzers, and oscilloscopes;
  • Use ETAS INCA to connect to vehicle ECUs via CAN/XCP, configure measurement tasks, and log relevant parameters (bus voltage, battery current, inverter states, thermal signals);
  • Post-process measurement data in MATLAB/Simulink - automate analysis scripts to evaluate voltage/current ripple, charging efficiency, ramp behavior, and thermal performance;
  • Prepare structured test reports and document results clearly for engineering review.
3.Ripple, Stability & Voltage Control Analysis
  • Analyze voltage and current ripple on the HV bus under various charging conditions (different SoC levels, temperatures, power steps, station types);
  • Identify and characterize instabilities or oscillations in the boost converter control loop;
  • Support root cause analysis of anomalies in voltage regulation, current control, or switching behavior.
4.EMC Pre-Compliance & Interference Analysis
  • Assist in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) assessments during charging events in accordance with CISPR 25 automotive requirements;
  • Document observed interference phenomena and coordinate with the system team on mitigation approaches.
5.Modeling & Simulation Support
  • Support or build MATLAB/Simulink models of the DC boost converter topology for control analysis and test case derivation;
  • Simulate control loop responses to compare against measured on-vehicle behavior;
  • Assist in tuning or calibrating control parameters (current regulators, voltage loop, feed-forward tables) using INCA and MATLAB Model-Based Calibration Toolbox.
6.Coordination & Documentation
  • Maintain a clear test logbook throughout the campaign (test conditions, configurations, observations, deviations);
  • Update test specifications and procedures as findings evolve;
  • Communicate daily status and issues to the team lead; elevate critical findings promptly.
What You Bring
1.Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related field;
  • Solid theoretical background in power electronics: converter topologies, switching behavior, and control loop fundamentals;
  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage component testing or HV laboratory environments (automotive or industrial);
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink - both for control modeling and for measurement data analysis/scripting;
  • Working knowledge of ETAS INCA or comparable calibration/measurement tools (e.g., Vector CANape) for ECU-level data acquisition;
  • Familiarity with EV charging systems: OBC, DC fast charging, charging protocols (CCS, ISO 15118, IEC 61851);
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Europe for multi-day test campaigns (approx. 20-30% travel);
  • Fluent in English (working language of the team); German is a plus.
2.Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with 800V EV architectures or bidirectional DC-DC converter systems;
  • Knowledge of EMC measurement techniques and automotive standards (CISPR 25, CISPR 12);
  • Familiarity with CAN bus communication and diagnostic tools (Vector CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar);
  • Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC / GaN) in power converter applications;
  • Simulation experience with tools such as PLECS, LTspice, or PSIM;
  • HV safety qualification (DGUV 200-005, Stufe 1/2) or equivalent;
  • Programming skills in Python for test automation or data visualization;
  • Prior internship or working student experience in an automotive OEM, Tier-1 supplier, or engineering services company.
What We Offer
  • Direct contribution to a cutting-edge EV charging technology being validated for the European market
  • Mentorship from senior power electronics and calibration engineers
  • Real hands-on testing experience — on actual vehicles at real charging sites, not just simulation
  • Exposure to the full V-model: from control design and simulation through bench testing to field validation
  • International working environment at Li Auto's European R&D hub in Munich
  • Travel to multiple European countries as part of the test campaign
  • Competitive internship compensation
  • Possibility of a thesis project or full-time opportunity upon graduation, based on performance
