We are working with a high-growth, technology-driven consumer business in Berlin looking for a Head of Engineering & Data to take ownership of its small but scaling technology function.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, split roughly 50/50 between technical execution and leadership. You will set the technical direction, lead a small engineering team and remain directly involved in architecture, development, infrastructure and data.

Your responsibilities

• Own the engineering, technology and data strategy
• Lead and develop a small team of engineers across software and data
• Make key architectural and technical decisions
• Remain hands-on with development, reviews, infrastructure and tooling
• Own the roadmap for the company's internal technology platforms
• Work directly with senior leadership to translate business needs into technical solutions
• Establish engineering standards and support future technical hiring
• Drive practical use of AI, automation and data across the business

Technology Stack:

Python | FastAPI | TypeScript | React | PostgreSQL | BigQuery | dbt | GCP | Docker | Terraform | CI/CD | AI/LLM tooling

You don't need to be an expert across the entire stack, but you should be comfortable operating across backend, data and infrastructure and making architectural decisions.

About you

• 6+ years of software engineering experience
• Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Engineering Lead, Head of Engineering, Principal Engineer or similar
• Strong backend and software architecture experience
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern engineering practices
• Previous experience mentoring or leading engineers
• Comfortable remaining hands-on rather than moving into pure management
• Strong product mindset and pragmatic approach to technology
• Excellent communication skills and confidence working with senior stakeholders
• Fluent English; German is a plus
