You will stay close to production code while guiding teams across architecture and delivery to achieve pragmatic outcomes for diverse clients in the DACH region.

Berlin Bytes is a creative software development and consulting agency. Together with Kambria, our AI transformation partner, we design, build, and scale digital products and AI-driven solutions for clients across the DACH region.

Our projects span custom software development in renewable energy, automotive, manufacturing, and data management. We work closely with clients to solve complex operational and technical challenges, from discovery and delivery to long-term product evolution.

We are looking for a hands-on Tech Lead who enjoys building software, taking technical ownership, and working directly with clients. In this role, you will lead client projects that require a strong mix of architecture, delivery, and implementation. Depending on the project phase and client needs, your focus may lean more toward solution design, technical consulting, or hands‑on engineering, but you will always remain close to the code and the outcome.

This is a role for someone who feels at home in a client environment, makes pragmatic technical decisions with confidence, and leads by doing.

What you will be doing

• Own technical delivery end to end: You will take responsibility for technical decisions, architecture, implementation quality, and delivery outcomes across client projects.
• Stay hands‑on in the codebase: This is not a pure leadership role. You will actively build software, contribute directly to production code, and help shape solutions from the ground up.
• Work closely with clients: You will participate in client meetings, workshops, and technical discussions to understand business needs, translate them into technical requirements, and propose pragmatic solutions.
• Lead with autonomy: You will act as a technical lead in different project settings, guiding engineers, unblocking challenges, and helping the team move quickly and effectively.
• Balance engineering, architecture, and delivery: Depending on the project and phase, your focus may lean more toward solution architecture, delivery leadership, technical consulting, or hands‑on implementation, but always with direct ownership of the technical outcome.
• Raise the technical bar: You will contribute to code quality, maintainability, documentation, and engineering best practices.
• Explore modern technologies: You will evaluate and apply new technologies where they create real value, including AI-related use cases when relevant.

What we're looking for

Must-have

• Strong German language skills for direct client communication
• Experience in an agency, consultancy, or client‑project environment
• Previous experience as a Tech Lead or in a comparable autonomous technical leadership role
• Strong hands‑on fullstack development skills
• Ability to take technical ownership and work independently
• Confident communication with clients and cross‑functional teams
• Fluency in English

Strong advantage

• Strong backend experience with scalable APIs and data modeling
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, Svelte, or Angular
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and CI/CD
• Knowledge of authentication and security concepts such as OIDC
• Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into software products

Nice-to-have

• Mobile development experience
• Infrastructure as Code experience such as Terraform or CDK
• Experience in rapid prototyping or innovation‑driven projects
