Job Summary:
As Head of Operations, you will provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership for laboratory departments in chemistry and biology. You will ensure the smooth and compliant execution of pharmaceutical analytical services in line with GMP and other regulatory standards while driving continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence across the laboratories.
Operational & Strategic Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day operations of chemistry and biology laboratory departments.
- Provide technical and managerial guidance to department heads.
- Ensure efficient, compliant, and timely execution of analytical testing and reporting.
- Monitor budgets, control costs, and coordinate reporting with Finance and Managing Directors.
- Continuously optimize processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
- Lead commercial and strategic planning for laboratory operations.
- Develop and implement tools for project, cost, and time management.
- Ensure full compliance with quality assurance, GMP, and occupational safety requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Quality Assurance, Project Management, and Client Services.
Team & Personnel Management
- Provide professional and disciplinary leadership to department heads and laboratory staff.
- Plan resources, manage staffing levels, and foster employee growth and development.
- Conduct training and promote a culture of quality, safety, and high performance.
Process Optimization & Innovation
- Continuously improve laboratory workflows, methods, and procedures.
- Introduce new technologies and analytical approaches in collaboration with R&D.
- Develop and manage operational tools for efficient project, cost, and time tracking.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to GMP, regulatory guidelines, and internal quality standards.
- Implement, monitor, and maintain quality assurance and occupational safety measures.
- Support and prepare for internal and external audits and inspections.
Financial & Project Management
- Contribute to budgeting, cost control, and resource planning.
- Serve as operational liaison for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support strategic growth initiatives and digitalization of laboratory services.
Background and Skills
- University degree or equivalent qualification.
- Several years of experience in a laboratory environment, ideally under GMP conditions.
- Proven leadership and team development capabilities.
- Experience with Lean Management and process optimization.
- Strong analytical mindset, structured approach, and independent working style.
- Proficiency in English and German.
