Giesecke & Devrient GB Ltd. in Munich is seeking a strategic Head of Digital (m/f/d) to lead and develop approximately 15 Product Owners, Software Architects, and Software Engineers within agile Scrum teams across Germany and India.

You will report to the Head of Digital Systems in India and the Head of R&D Software Solutions in Munich, driving AI-enabled software engineering transformation and a high-performance engineering culture across locations.

Qualifikationen

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience driving AI-enabled software engineering transformation.
• Hands-on experience building enterprise desktop, web, and cloud apps with Java and .NET.
• Strong knowledge of SSDLC, CI/CD, test automation, security practices.

As a member of the Digital Systems leadership team within R&D Software Solutions, you will lead and develop approximately 15 Product Owners, Software Architects, and Software Engineers based in Munich. Your team members work within agile, cross‑functional Scrum teams that are distributed across Germany and India, collaborating closely with colleagues from multiple locations.

As part of a global Digital Systems organization, you will work in a matrix setup with a functional reporting line to the Head of Digital Systems in India and a disciplinary reporting line to the Head of R&D Software Solutions in Munich.

Together with your peers in Germany and India, you will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of our digital product portfolio, driving collaboration, innovation, and software engineering excellence across locations and teams.

The digital product portfolio supports our banknote processing systems, cash logistics operations (inbound, outbound, and in transit), and transportation workflows, as well as monitoring and analytics solutions that help our customers improve the efficiency and security of the entire cash cycle.

You are a hands‑on leader who mentors talent, drives engineering excellence, initiates technology innovations, and supports the teams as a servant leader.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop Product Owners, Software Architects and Engineers, embedded in agile Scrum teams, fostering high‑performing, empowered teams.
• Manage team capacity, resource allocation, and project assignments.
• Collaborate with other engineering leaders to continuously elevate software engineering excellence and establish best practices across the organization.
• Contribute to the software engineering roadmap; drive and execute improvement initiatives and technology strategies beyond your direct area of responsibility.
• Promote a culture of ownership, self‑organization, end‑to‑end accountability, built‑in quality, and security by design and default.
• Ensure adherence to defined quality standards, testing processes, and compliance requirements.
• Support organizational change initiatives and contribute to building a scalable, sustainable engineering culture.
• Help to drive the AI‑Transformation in Software Engineering.

Required Skills:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Proven experience driving AI‑enabled software engineering transformation, including the introduction and scaling of AI‑assisted development practices, agentic workflows, and spec‑driven development methodologies across engineering organizations
• Hands‑on experience building enterprise desktop, web, and cloud applications using Java, .NET, and various database technologies and data platforms
• Familiarity with on‑premise infrastructure, containerization, as well as Microsoft Azure
• Strong knowledge of the whole SSDLC, CI/CD, test automation, security practices and quality assurance
• Proven expertise managing complex end‑to‑end software development projects, including sustaining engineering
• Experience with effort estimation, resource planning, and skill matrix development
• Strong problem‑solving abilities with a focus on scalability, robustness, and performance optimization
• Ability to manage complex team dynamics and maintain high levels of engagement
• Experience working in Agile environments and partnering with Scrum Masters and development teams
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in an intercultural setting
• Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and cultivate a high‑performance culture
• Strong people‑leadership skills with a coaching mindset and the ability to act as a trusted partner
• Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English
