EIDU is seeking a mid-level to senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to help build the next generation of our platform for governments and education organisations across Africa and beyond.

You will ship features end-to-end, construct a configurable core platform, and design modular frontend components. The role emphasises scalable, high-quality code and collaboration in a small, mission-driven team.

About Us

EIDU partners with governments to strengthen public education systems at scale. Our technology-enabled platform integrates proven educational interventions and supports learners, teachers, and ministry staff within national systems.
Today, we work with 41 governments and will reach 1,000,000 active students across Kenya and Nigeria in 2026. We have doubled our learner numbers each year over the last five years and aim to reach tens of millions more. A randomised controlled trial found a 0.53 standard deviation improvement in learning outcomes — placing EIDU among the top 10% of education interventions in low- and middle-income countries.
EIDU is funded by governments, leading development agencies, and foundations. We are building an organisation capable of turning strategy into measurable impact at national scale.

About the role

We're looking for a mid-level or senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to help us build the next generation of our platform — a highly configurable, modular system used by governments and education organisations across Africa and beyond.

What you will do:

• Ship product features end-to-end: plan, analyse, document, code, review, test, and release high-quality code across the full stack — both frontend and backend,
• Build our core platform: the configurable system that lets hundreds of organisations deploy and adapt our product — backed by the services, APIs, and data infrastructure that keep it running.
• Design and build modular, web-based frontend components — widgets and plugin-like building blocks that slot into that platform and reach millions of students.
• Keep quality high by writing readable, maintainable code, adding meaningful tests, monitoring in production, and driving complex issues to resolution.
• Apply your experience with enterprise-scale systems to make thoughtful architectural decisions: code that performs for millions of users across varied environments is very different from code that works for one.
• Share what you learn by pairing with teammates, contributing clear docs, and raising the bar through thoughtful reviews and feedback.
• Champion AI tools in our workflows — not just as a user, but as someone who actively finds new ways to apply them: LLM-augmented coding, debugging, documentation, or building AI-enhanced internal tooling.

What you should bring:

• The desire to use your skills to bring about positive social change.
• Demonstrated experience as a mid-to-senior engineer; you’ve built production systems at scale in established organisations.
• Experience building software used by many organisations simultaneously: configurable, multi-tenant, or platform-style systems where your decisions affect how hundreds of customers experience the product.
• A solid foundation in web technologies (React, TypeScript) and experience building modular, composable frontend components.
• Exposure to low-code or no-code platforms: whether you’ve built one, contributed to one, or used them deeply enough to understand what makes them powerful and where they fall short.
• A passion for writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
• A genuine enthusiasm for AI tools. You actively experiment with them, find new applications, and help the people around you do the same.
• Excellent collaboration skills and a willingness to learn new tech or dive into unfamiliar systems.
• We speak and operate in English. Knowledge of German is not required.
