Jobbeschreibung

Position Overview:

This is a vacancy for a hybrid role with regular visits to our HQ in Tutzing, Germany or Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of gender identity. We are building out the cloud services around the Lobster Data Platform, and we are looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join us. What you would build sits between the platform and the people who run it: dashboards that show what is actually happening in a customer's integrations, control planes for provisioning and configuration, self-service tooling that takes routine work off our operations team, and the monitoring around all of it. Python and its API on the backend, Angular on the front end, and you would work on both sides. What our customers see is the software you create, so we care as much about how you think about our users as about how you code. The best ideas here tend to come from engineers who ask what someone is trying to achieve and then make that easier. You will have the freedom to bring those ideas to Product Management and to build them. Ready to make an impact?

You’ll get to take ownership of:
  • Developing our Python backend as a product: data model, business logic, validation, migrations, automated tests.
  • Designing and maintaining the RESTful API on top of it, so that services, front-ends and neighbouring systems communicate cleanly.
  • Defining and implementing scalable microservices, from the schema through to deployment.
  • Building the Angular front-end that sits on that API, together with a colleague from the team: components, state, routing and the tests that go with them.
  • Operating and maintaining what you build: containerized, stateless services on AWS, deployed through CI/CD rather than by hand, with monitoring and alerting that tells you something before a customer does.
  • Keeping the running system healthy over time, from dependency and version upgrades to cost and configuration.
  • Evaluating and selecting the tools and technologies that fit a given engineering problem
  • Working closely with Product Management on what the software should do: bringing your own ideas about what customers need, where their work is still harder than it has to be, and how a step could be made simpler.
  • Improving the practices around all of this, from pipelines to test coverage to how we handle incidents.

None of the following is a hard requirement. The more of it you bring, the sooner you can take on that part of the role, and the rest you can pick up here:

  • A DevOps mindset in practice: you have looked after services you wrote, not handed them over the wall.
  • AWS experience beyond a certification: compute, networking, storage and identity, and a sense of what a design decision costs.
  • Serverless patterns alongside long-running services, and a view on when each one is the right choice.
  • Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • CI/CD with GitHub Actions or something comparable.
  • Monitoring, logging and alerting: you have set these up rather than only read the dashboards.
We’d love to meet someone with:
  • Around three to five years of professional software engineering with Python as your primary language, and experience running what you built in production.
  • Python craft: strictly typed, well-structured application code. You have built and maintained a backend and its API, not scripts and notebooks, and you model your data at every boundary with Pydantic or something similar.
  • Experience with a web framework such as FastAPI, and with relational databases: schema design, an ORM like SQLAlchemy, and migrations you can run without holding your breath
  • Practical async Python: you have built services on asyncio and you know why a single blocking call inside a coroutine stalls everything around it.
  • Angular and TypeScript on the front end. You can build new components where the product needs them, not only adjust what is already there.
  • A production mindset (you build it, you run it). You think about pipelines, maintainability, testing, telemetry and debugging, and you are willing to be part of working out why something broke
  • A feel for what goes wrong across a network boundary: timeouts, bounded retries with backoff, idempotency.
  • Working knowledge of Docker and of building services that hold no state of their own
  • An eye for the people on the other side of the screen. You ask what a customer is actually trying to get done, and you would rather remove a step than document it.
  • A creative, independent way of working. You are given a goal and room to find the route, and you enjoy filling in the parts that nobody has specified yet.
  • A natural instinct for security. Our software handles customer data and customer environments, so you think about access, secrets and validation while you write, not afterwards.
  • Strong communication skills in English. German is desirable, but not a requirement.
You can look forward to:
  • Opportunity to work flexibly from home
  • Modern offices in Germany and the Netherlands
  • A personal Learning & Development budget
  • Up to 30 days of remote work per year from any EU country
  • Company Pension plan
  • 30 vacation days a year
  • 2 additional paid days off on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve
  • Location-specific benefits packages (your recruiter will be happy to provide more details during your first chat)
  • Company-sponsored business travel

For this role, we are open to working with specialists based in Germany or the Netherlands. Whether you prefer working on-site at our offices in Tutzing, Amsterdam, or remotely from a location within one of these countries, we’re happy to accommodate your preferred working style.

Lobster is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where empathy and respect guide our interactions.
