Job summary

One Thousand, Germany's leading AI powerhouse, seeks a hands-on AI engineer to design and ship real-world AI solutions in client environments. You’ll sit with clients, transform messy sessions into working prototypes, and drive projects from PoC to MVP with clear business value.

You’ll work embedded in squads, orchestrating agents, building data pipelines, and deploying services in cloud environments (Azure preferred). Travel ~50% to client sites in Germany.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience building scalable, production-grade software.
• Hands-on ML in production: model training, deployment, monitoring; proficient with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
• Strong Python and SQL: solid foundations, clean code, good engineering instincts.
• Cloud and web experience: at least one cloud platform (preferably Azure), secure web app setup, PostgreSQL.
• You run multiple Claude Code instances in parallel and feel frustrated when you can't.
• You've created proper evals and let AI agents cook for 30+ minutes.

• You work embedded in one of our squads: close to the action, with short decision paths and real ownership
• You bring AI to organizations that need it most: corporates, Mittelstand, scale-ups, NGOs, and the public sector

What the role is about

No playbook exists. You'll write it.

You don't build from a distance. You sit with the client, understand their world, and ship solutions in the room.

You're the person who turns a messy whiteboard session on Monday into a working prototype by Friday and make the client feel like they built it with you, not for them.

What you bring

• Comfort with ambiguity: vague requirements are your starting point, not a blocker
• German from C1 for confident client communication

Travel:

This role requires being on-site with clients around 50% of the time. You're comfortable with that – and ideally, you see it as a feature, not a bug.
