Employ Global's client, a fast-growing pioneer in agricultural robotics, seeks a Field Application Engineer to develop, test, and support autonomous farm machines in northern Germany. You will spend substantial time at farms and test sites, working directly with machinery, customers, and the engineering team.

You will test equipment in field conditions, diagnose issues, and translate learnings into product improvements.

Our client is a fast-growing pioneer in agricultural robotics. They design and build autonomous farm machines that use computer vision and machine learning to help farmers understand and manage fields at a plant-by-plant level.

As an independent subsidiary of a global agricultural machinery leader, they combine the pace of a technology startup with the resources to bring new products to farms at scale. Their mission is to improve food production and farm profitability while reducing pesticide use.

The role:

We are seeking a hands-on Field Application Engineer to develop, test, and support next-generation smart farm machines in northern Germany. You will spend substantial time at farms and test sites, working directly with machinery, customers, and the engineering team.

You will test equipment in real field conditions, diagnose technical issues, and turn what you learn into practical product improvements. The role also involves collaboration with international colleagues and may include travel outside Germany.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out hardware, software, and machine vision tests on agricultural machinery, documenting results and field observations.
• Collect field data and diagnose electrical, mechanical, and software issues on site.
• Work with customers, product management, agronomy, and engineering teams to communicate product performance and user needs.
• Help prepare product documentation, user guides, and training materials.
• Track recurring technical issues from identification through resolution.
• Set up, calibrate, maintain, and transport field-testing equipment.

What we are looking for

Required

• A degree or equivalent practical experience in engineering, computer science, agriculture, or a related technical field.
• Experience supporting, troubleshooting, or maintaining complex agricultural machinery or comparable electromechanical equipment.
• Strong diagnostic skills across hardware, software, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• German language skills sufficient to work directly with local customers and English language skills sufficient to collaborate with the international engineering team.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to customer support.
• A valid driving licence and willingness to travel frequently to agricultural sites.

Preferred

• Familiarity with Linux and basic scripting, particularly Python.
• Experience planning or carrying out design verification testing.
• Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Experience with precision agriculture, machine vision, or autonomous equipment.

Working conditions

This is an active field role involving outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Field activities can include moving around large machinery, setting up test equipment, and inspecting equipment and camera output. Equipment may sometimes need to be lifted or moved.
