Jobbeschreibung

Equipment Engineer (Expansion Project)

HHLA PLT Italy is executing a phased expansion to transform the facility into a state-of-the-art intermodal container and RoRo terminal. The Expansion Project Team (Logistica Giuliana) will procure and bring into operation major port equipment (STS, ARMG, RTG) and selected minor terminal equipment, targeting best-in-class performance and safety.

We are seeking a hands-on Equipment Engineer to support the introduction of our future terminal equipment (e.g., STS, ARMG, RTG, and minor equipment). The role spans specification support, procurement, delivery, testing and commissioning, and final handover to operations. You will work closely with a small, experienced team and take ownership of equipment packages aligned with your experience. Key responsibilities include coordinating suppliers and internal stakeholders (operations, automation/IT, civil, QHSE) and ensuring that all deliverables within your scope are completed on time, within budget, and in line with required quality and safety standards.

Scope of work & key responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize and execute procurement, delivery, testing and commissioning activities for your assigned equipment package, aligned with the approved project schedule.
  • Analyze operational and project requirements to support equipment specifications and technical solutions.
  • Coordinate day-to-day with OEMs/suppliers; track progress, manage issues, and drive timely resolution of risks and delays.
  • Support and apply company QA/QC and HSE procedures; contribute to FAT/SAT planning and execution with the team.
  • Prepare and maintain package documentation: schedules, reports, technical deliverables, change records, and hand‑over dossiers (incl. CE documentation).
  • Collaborate with civil, automation/IT, and operations to ensure integrated delivery and readiness for commissioning and hand‑over.
  • Contribute inputs to budgets, forecasts, risks/opportunities, and management reports.
  • Follow corporate authority matrix and contract/policy compliance guidelines.
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities and report them to the Head of Equipment.
What you bring:
  • Native Italian and fluent English for daily coordination with local stakeholders and international OEMs (German is a plus).
  • Knowledge of the Italian context (local practices, stakeholders, and working culture); able to operate effectively with authorities, utilities, and local service providers.
  • 1–5 years of relevant experience (port equipment, heavy industry, EPC, industrial machinery, or similar). Internships and thesis / project experience on relevant topics are valued for junior profiles.
  • Solid fundamentals in mechanical, mechatronics, or industrial engineering; electrical and/or automation/IT experience is a strong plus (e.g., drives/VFDs, PLC/SCADA basics, power distribution, automation sensors and systems).
  • Familiarity with equipment procurement and vendor coordination (specifications, offers, clarifications, inspections).
  • Working awareness of HSE and machinery regulations is a plus:
    • D. Lgs. 81/2008 (salute e sicurezza nei luoghi di lavoro)
    • EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and CE marking
    • CEI standards for electrical safety (e.g., CEI 11‑27 / PES‑PAV‑PEI concepts)
    • Interactions with INAIL/ISPESL or notified bodies during inspections/approvals
  • Structured, proactive, and solution oriented; strong communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Additional bonus qualifications (not requirements):
    • Exposure to port equipment (STS, RTG/RMG/ARMG) or heavy cranes, lifting equipment, or other relevant machinery / automated systems.
    • Experience supporting FAT/SAT, commissioning planning, and operational hand‑over.
    • Understanding of public/private procurement processes and contracting practices.

We encourage applications from candidates belonging to protected categories under Law 68/99, including individuals with disabilities and other underrepresented groups.

As an international logistics company with its roots in Hamburg, HHLA stands for cosmopolitanism and tolerance. We are convinced of the advantages of different perspectives, experiences and competences. Our aim is to create a working environment in which humanity, mutual respect and appreciation are the basis for the actions of all employees.
