Role Purpose

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for global oversight, standardization, and alignment of the organization’s EHS framework across international aviation operations. The role establishes and maintains global EHS policy, procedures, and minimum performance standards, and monitors organizational conformance to applicable requirements through governance, performance reporting, and escalation. Regional EHS Coordinators/Leads are accountable for local implementation and execution within their respective jurisdictions and sites.

This role reports to the VP Safety, Quality, Risk and supports the integrated Safety, Quality, Risk operating model by: (1) coordinating EHS policy, standards, and enterprise-wide alignment within the Safety function, and (2) supporting independent assurance activities led by the Director of Assurance (e.g., audits, verification, and effectiveness validation), including timely completion of corrective and preventive actions (CPA).

Key Responsibilities
EHS Governance & Oversight
  • Develop, maintain, and govern a standardized EHS management framework across regions, aligned with aviation operational risks, regulatory requirements, and corporate safety objectives established through the Safety function.
  • Provide functional oversight, guidance, and standardization support to Regional EHS Coordinators/Leads, including defining minimum requirements, enabling tools/templates, and monitoring alignment to global policies and procedures (regional teams remain accountable for local implementation).
  • Monitor regional EHS conformance, performance, and risk trends through defined reporting, reviews, and governance; elevate systemic issues, material nonconformities, and significant events through the defined pathway to the VP Safety, Quality, Risk (and to ERM/governance forums as directed).
Policy, Procedures & Standardization
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve global EHS policies, standards, and procedures, balancing standardization with local regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure harmonization of EHS practices across regions related to maintenance activities, ground operations, facilities, hazardous materials, ergonomics, and contractor safety.
  • Define minimum EHS performance standards, internal control expectations, and evidence requirements applicable to all operating locations (to support consistent implementation and readiness for independent assurance).
Operational Safety & Risk Management
  • Identify, assess, and manage health, safety, and environmental risks associated with aviation maintenance, engineering, ground handling, and operational support activities.
  • Support integration and alignment of EHS hazards and risk controls with the organization’s Safety Management System (SMS), as applicable.
  • Establish expectations and provide oversight for EHS incident reporting, investigation coordination, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action (CPA) processes for EHS events; monitor action status to closure and elevate overdue or ineffective actions through Safety governance.
Compliance, Assurance & Reporting
  • Establish and maintain a compliance obligations register and minimum EHS compliance requirements; monitor regional compliance status against applicable international, national, and local EHS regulations, standards, and industry best practices, and elevate gaps for action.
  • Support EHS audits and inspections (internal, customer, and regulatory) by coordinating site readiness, providing evidence, and ensuring timely completion of agreed CPA. (Independent assurance/audit ownership resides with the Director of Assurance.)
  • Provide consolidated EHS performance reporting, trend analysis, and risk insights to executive leadership and governance committees.
Leadership & Culture
  • Promote a strong safety, health, environmental, and just culture across international operations.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical expertise to regional teams and operational leaders.
  • Support EHS awareness, training, and competency development initiatives across the organization.
Interfaces & Governance

Works under the direction of the VP Safety, Quality, Risk and collaborates with operational leaders, PRM/maintenance leadership, and Regional EHS Coordinators/Leads to set expectations, standardize practices, and monitor conformance to global EHS policies and procedures. Supports the Director of Assurance by providing evidence, facilitating audits/inspections, and coordinating completion of CPA arising from findings. Escalates material EHS risks, systemic issues, and significant nonconformities via the Safety governance pathway and, where directed, to ERM and executive governance forums.
