Summary:

Goldschmitt & Associates is seeking an Enterprise Data/ CRM Architect to provide senior architecture leadership across Federal Student Aid’s enterprise data environment, Common Data Model, customer-service platforms, integrations, analytics, and downstream data consumers.

The Enterprise Data /CRM Architect will help FSA create a coherent architecture for how borrower, loan, servicing, operational, and customer-interaction data is defined, governed, shared, and consumed across enterprise systems.

This role operates above individual pipelines or applications. The architect will define how the Common Data Model, Business Needs Layer, APIs, integration services, CRM/customer-care platforms, NSLDS, analytics environments, and other FSA systems work together while maintaining consistent data meaning, ownership, security, lineage, quality, and lifecycle controls.

The Enterprise Data/ CRM Architect must combine strong enterprise data architecture with enough application and integration knowledge to understand how data is created and used across business processes. The architect will work closely with the Senior Data Engineer, Enterprise Integration Architect, CDM Platform Engineer, Analytics Engineer, product leadership, and FSA enterprise architecture teams.

FSA’s modernization requires a governed enterprise data capability that normalizes heterogeneous servicer data, improves quality and timeliness, and supports analytics, integrations, and future borrower-facing capabilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead enterprise data architecture across FSA’s Common Data Model, Business Needs Layer, CRM/customer-service platforms, servicer integrations, NSLDS, analytics environments, and downstream consumers
  • Define the target-state architecture for how borrower, loan, servicing, customer-interaction, and operational data flows through the enterprise
  • Establish architecture principles for authoritative data sources, canonical data structures, shared definitions, data ownership, and system-of-record responsibilities
  • Define relationships between source-system models, the CDM, semantic/business layers, CRM structures, APIs, analytical models, and downstream applications
  • Guide development and evolution of canonical enterprise data models
  • Define approaches for schema versioning, compatibility, data lifecycle management, and controlled evolution of enterprise data structures
  • Review proposed source-to-CDM mappings and ensure transformations preserve business meaning and support enterprise reuse
  • Partner with the Senior Data Engineer on schema design, conformance rules, validation strategies, and complex source-data decisions
  • Define how customer and borrower information should be represented consistently across CRM, servicing, analytical, and digital-service environments
  • Identify duplicate, conflicting, or overlapping data definitions across platforms and recommend a target enterprise model
  • Establish patterns for data mastered in one system but consumed or enriched in another
  • Define architecture for data synchronization, event-driven data exchange, APIs, data products, and other enterprise access patterns
  • Partner with the Enterprise Integration Architect to ensure interface and integration patterns support the enterprise data model
  • Establish requirements for data contracts between producers and consumers
  • Define architecture standards for data quality, lineage, metadata, cataloging, stewardship, and governance
  • Ensure architecture supports traceability from source through transformation to downstream consumption
  • Define appropriate controls for sensitive borrower and financial information, including access, security, privacy, auditability, and least-privilege use
  • Evaluate the architecture impacts of read-only near-real-time servicer integration and future bi-directional exchange
  • Assess the impact of proposed UBP and customer-service capabilities on enterprise data structures and data services without defining out-of-scope UBP features
  • Identify technical debt, redundant data movement, tightly coupled integrations, and other architecture patterns that limit reuse or product agility
  • Develop architecture decision records, reference architectures, data-flow diagrams, data lifecycle plans, interface patterns, and phased modernization roadmaps
  • Evaluate alternative architectures and clearly document tradeoffs involving cost, complexity, scalability, reliability, security, data quality, and maintainability
  • Support architecture reviews and provide independent technical recommendations to FSA leadership
  • Work with product leaders to ensure data architecture decisions support measurable business and borrower outcomes
  • Work with analytics and HCD teams to ensure enterprise data structures are understandable and useful to business consumers
  • Help establish an architecture that allows FSA to evolve data products and services without repeatedly rebuilding point-to-point transformations
  • Mentor engineers and architects on enterprise data architecture practices and promote consistent standards across teams and contractors
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
  • Significant experience designing enterprise data architectures across multiple applications and organizational domains
  • Strong experience with canonical data models, enterprise data models, or Common Data Models
  • Experience designing data integration patterns across transactional systems, APIs, event streams, analytical platforms, and enterprise applications
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, relational and analytical data structures, schema design, metadata, lineage, and data quality
  • Experience defining systems of record, authoritative data sources, data ownership, and enterprise data domains
  • Strong understanding of APIs, integration architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed application environments
  • Experience with enterprise CRM or customer-service platforms and the customer/borrower data models that support them
  • Experience designing data architecture for complex legacy modernization efforts
  • Ability to understand both logical business models and physical implementation constraints
  • Experience developing architecture roadmaps, reference architectures, architecture decision records, and phased migration strategies
  • Strong understanding of security, privacy, access control, and audit requirements for sensitive enterprise data
  • Ability to evaluate technical alternatives and explain architecture decisions to both technical and executive audiences
  • Strong collaboration skills across application, integration, data, cloud, security, analytics, product, and business teams
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possess at least 12 years of experience in enterprise architecture, data architecture, solution architecture, CRM architecture, or related technical roles
  • Possess the ability to pass a 6C Public Trust investigation, including US citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Federal Government enterprise architecture experience
  • Department of Education or Federal Student Aid experience
  • Financial services, lending, loan servicing, or other highly regulated transactional data experience
  • Experience with borrower, customer, account, transaction, or servicing data models
  • Experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, ServiceNow CSM, or another large enterprise CRM/customer-service platform
  • Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, or comparable modern data-platform technologies
  • Experience with cloud-based enterprise data architecture
  • Experience with REST APIs, event streaming, API gateways, and data contracts
  • Experience implementing master/reference data management or enterprise data-governance capabilities
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust, FISMA, FedRAMP, and federal privacy/security requirements
  • Experience supporting enterprise analytics, semantic layers, data catalogs, and governed self-service data environments
