Job summary

GetYourGuide is hiring an Engineering Manager to own the vision and build a new traveler context platform. You will lead a team alongside a Product Manager, engineers, a data scientist, and an analyst to design identity models and forward-looking predictions that power GetYourGuide's personalization across journeys.

You will shape the roadmap, hire and mentor engineers, and foster a culture of experimentation while delivering impact across search, lifecycle, paid channels, and customer

Team mission

GetYourGuide knows a lot about travelers, and we want to make better use of that data. Identity, booking history, browsing behavior, care conversations, preferences and predictions all sit in separate systems, in different shapes. The User Platform team is a brand new function with truly outsized opportunity for impact. They are building the traveler context layer: resolving who someone is across devices and sessions, and turning scattered signals into a shared, interpretable, and predictive understanding that every team can build on. As this function matures, the scope will extend to our other users over time.

Role overview

As an Engineering Manager, you will own the vision and set up for a new platform at GetYourGuide. You will be working with a Product Manager, engineers, an embedded data scientist, and an analyst. You will define what the traveler context layer holds, how it is served, and which problems it solves first. This is a genuine zero-to-one opportunity. Your team will design the identity model, the semantic memory that both humans and LLMs can read, the forward-looking predictions on top of it, and the self-serve interfaces that make it usable.

The work is equal parts craft and demand creation. Our consumers are other teams: search and ranking, lifecycle and paid channels, customer care, and the traveler experience itself. Their need is real and widely felt.

We are looking for an Engineering leader who is fluent in setting up new teams, data, a new platform, Backend systems, and who is comfortable when the scope of a domain is still being drawn, and who wants to build the foundation that personalization at GetYourGuide will run on for years.

Your mission

• Lead hiring and performance management for a team of engineers, setting a high bar for talent and enabling engineers to grow and perform at their best
• Work closely with the Product Manager in a highly collaborative setup to shape and deliver the roadmap and strategy, driving business results across a large, complex domain end-to-end, setting the tech direction for your team
• Drive technical excellence and own and raise the system health of the team
• Foster a supportive culture that continuously evolves based on learnings
• Champion an experimentation mindset, leveraging data and insights to validate ideas and iterate quickly
• Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across the business to drive impactful initiatives

Your toolkit

• A seasoned engineering leader with strong ownership, aligning technical direction with team and stakeholder needs
• Comfortable navigating complex problem spaces and empowering your team to do the same
• Passionate about experimentation as a core tool for discovery and decision-making
• Bring a full-stack mindset and can engage meaningfully across backend and frontend systems
• Experienced in applying AI technologies within product development
• A people-first leader who coaches and supports engineers at all levels without micromanaging
• Deeply customer-focused, using product judgment to guide roadmap and priorities
• Thrive in an international, cross-functional environment with strong collaboration skills
