Job summary

GetYourGuide is seeking a Growth Data Engineer in Berlin to own data end-to-end, partnering with Marketing, Analytics, and Engineering to deliver trusted, self-serve capabilities. You will design scalable data pipelines, maintain data quality, and drive adoption of data products across the growth stack.

You will mentor others, help raise engineering standards, and apply an AI-first mindset to accelerate insights while ensuring governance and security.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a data role with end-to-end ownership from source integration to models and metrics downstream.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication, able to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Deep data engineering skills: SQL & Python, robust pipelines, scalable data storage (Delta, Snowflake, PostgreSQL/MySQL), data quality focus, dbt, Spark familiarity.
• Experience with data visualization tools (Looker/Tableau) and notebooks (Jupyter) for insights.
• Strong ability to prioritise, manage stakeholders, and translate business needs into technical plans and outcomes.
• Autonomy, ownership, customer focus, and balancing system health with new delivery; mentoring mindset and teamwork.
• AI-first mindset: leveraging AI tools to boost productivity while upholding quality and governance.

Responsibilities

• Own data end-to-end from ingestion to models and metrics that drive growth decisions.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Analytics, and Engineering to translate business needs into outcomes.
• Lead system design for new capabilities and evolve production stack for simplicity and maintainability.

Within Growth Data Engineering - part of the strategic Flywheel Data Engineering group - our mission is to build the trusted data foundations and self-serve capabilities for the customer growth side of our marketplace. We ingest, integrate, and structure critical internal and external datasets into reliable tables, metrics, and data products that help GetYourGuide acquire and retain our customers. We achieve this through close partnership with Growth Analytics and Marketing teams, enabling teams to move faster with confidence.

Your mission

• Own the data end-to-end: Deliver reliable, high-quality data solutions that enable growth decision-making across acquisition, conversion, engagement, and retention.
• Be a trusted thought partner: Work closely with Marketing, Analytics and Engineering to translate business needs into delivered outcomes and drive adoption of trusted, self-serve data capabilities.
• Drive technical excellence in the stack: Lead system design for new capabilities and continuously evolve what's already in production - architecture, testing, observability, performance, and cost efficiency - with a bias toward simplicity, reusability, and maintainability.
• Strong operational mindset: Maintain a sustainable balance between operational responsibilities and building new solutions, using team SLOs as an input to prioritize improvements.
• Level up the team and shape how we build: Raise the engineering bar through strong code reviews, design input, and hands-on support, and influence standards and technology choices with a focus on simplicity, reusability, and maintainability.

Your toolkit

• Experience: 5+ years in a relevant data role. You've built and owned a data domain end-to-end - from source integration through to the models and metrics that downstream teams depend on
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, able to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Data engineering depth: Expertise in SQL & Python, building robust data pipelines and data models, and operating data at scale in warehouses/lakes (e.g., Delta, Snowflake, PostgreSQL/MySQL) with strong focus on data quality, accuracy, and reliability. Strong dbt proficiency and familiarity with Spark.
• Reporting & insights: Solid understanding of data visualization and enablement through tools like Looker/Tableau and notebooks (e.g., Jupyter).
• Business and stakeholder focus: Able to prioritize effectively, manage stakeholders, and translate business needs into clear technical plans and delivered outcomes.
• Autonomy & ownership: Proactive, customer-oriented, and comfortable owning projects end-to-end, balancing system health (monitoring, performance, cost) with new delivery.
• Team impact: Collaborative and mentoring-minded, enjoys sharing knowledge, raising standards through reviews, and helping the team succeed.
