Team

Join our Host Experience department as an Engineering Manager and become part of the team that powers how our hosts’ properties reach the world. You’ll be working at the core of our distribution engine – where we take tens of thousands of homes and make them bookable on major travel platforms such as Holidu, Booking.com, Airbnb, VRBO, HomeToGo, and Check24.

This team operates in one of the most technically dynamic areas of our product. You’ll work with systems that synchronize large volumes of updates at high speed and maintain high availability, while integrating with a wide variety of partner APIs – each with its own structure and complexity. It’s work that demands precision, scalability, and smart engineering decisions, and it plays a crucial role in helping our hosts reach millions of guests worldwide.

Tech Stack

• Backend applications written in Kotlin and Java 21+ (with Spring Boot)
• Deployed as microservices on an AWS‑hosted Kubernetes cluster (EKS)
• Internal and external web applications written with ReactJS
• Event‑driven communication between services through EventBridge with SQS / ActiveMQ
• Using PostgreSQL, SQS, S3, Redis, ElasticSearch, GraphQL, and many more depending on the use case
• Monitoring with Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, APM, and CloudWatch

Responsibilities

• Functional and people leadership of a team of around 5 engineers, implementing innovative technical solutions and ensuring hosts’ properties are well represented on channels.
• Work closely with engineers to develop high‑quality solutions in cross‑functional projects, leading implementation of new features and ensuring existing processes work correctly and efficiently.
• Dedicate a significant portion (50%) of your time to active coding.
• Ensure applications are stable, scalable, and extendable to support the high growth trajectory of the company.
• Focus on the growth of your team by offering continuous constructive feedback, supporting and encouraging them on their growth path, and recruiting new engineers.
• Collaborate with product management, product design, and stakeholders to understand business context and define the team’s goals and roadmap.
• Collaborate with peers, staff engineers, and other stakeholders to drive strategic technology decisions.
• Foster a culture of ownership, autonomy, and inclusivity within your team and the entire department.

Qualifications

• Proven track record as a successful software engineer building backend and/or frontend applications.
• Experience with Java/Kotlin/Spring.
• Experience working in a fast‑paced startup/scaleup environment.
• Experience providing technical leadership (e.g., setting goals and priorities, architecture design, task planning, and code reviews).
• Experience as an informal team leader, building an excellent team culture based on mutual respect, empathy, learning, and support.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to deal with ambiguity and clarify through communication.
• Candidates currently in a senior engineering role but looking to step toward management are welcome to apply.
