A major data centre project in Frankfurt needs an Electrical Commissioning Manager to take critical power from installed to proven. Switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, energisation, integrated systems testing and a clean handover - owned end to end by one senior person on site.
About the opportunity
You will lead the commissioning of complex electrical infrastructure in a mission-critical environment, from strategy and planning through testing, energisation, IST and final client acceptance. You will work with project management, engineering, electrical contractors, specialist vendors, commissioning authorities, consultants and the client, and you will be the senior commissioning voice in the room.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who has delivered large-scale data centre or other mission-critical commissioning programmes and knows what it takes to get systems signed off on time and safely.
What you will be doing
- Developing commissioning strategies, plans, schedules and testing programmes for electrical systems
- Coordinating commissioning against the wider construction programme and protecting key milestones
- Leading testing and commissioning of LV and critical electrical distribution systems
- Coordinating testing of switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS and associated control systems
- Reviewing test procedures, method statements and commissioning documentation
- Managing energisation activities under approved safety procedures
- Planning and running Integrated Systems Testing across electrical, mechanical, controls, BMS, fire and life-safety systems
- Verifying redundant and resilient power arrangements under normal, emergency and failure conditions
- Leading commissioning engineers, technicians and specialist subcontractors
- Coordinating client and consultant witnessing, and presenting progress and risk to project leadership
- Driving fault-finding and investigation where results fall outside expectation
- Approving commissioning records and test certificates, and closing out defects through to handover
- Supporting O&M documentation, operational training and final sign-off
What you will need
- Minimum 8 years in electrical commissioning, electrical engineering or senior project delivery
- Proven delivery of commissioning programmes on large-scale projects
- Background in data centres, critical infrastructure, pharmaceutical, industrial or other mission-critical environments
- Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and critical power infrastructure
- Commissioning experience across UPS, generators, switchgear, transformers and electrical distribution
- Strong grasp of electrical testing, verification and energisation procedures
- Experience with Integrated Systems Testing
- Proven experience leading commissioning teams and specialist subcontractors
- Confident interpreting electrical drawings, schematics and specifications
- Strong communication and stakeholder management under programme pressure
- Willingness to be site-based in Frankfurt, Germany
- Right to work in Germany without sponsorship
Nice to have
- Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Recognised commissioning qualification or CSA commissioning certification
- Knowledge of CIBSE, BSRIA or equivalent commissioning standards
- Familiarity with German electrical regulations and standards
- German language skills - advantageous, not essential
Working pattern
Full-time, site-based in Frankfurt. Occasional travel may be required.
What is on offer
€120,000 - €150,000 per annum depending on experience, on a flagship data centre project with a clear commissioning programme and a senior seat at the table.
